My name is Damien Winters and I'm seventeen years old. Most people call me Damien, but my friends call me "Roger" because they say I'm too nice like Mr. Rogers. It's a brisk Friday morning and it's the last game of the season for the Fiscal Falls Fighter Ferrets. I know what you're thinking, "who makes their mascot a ferret?" Fiscal Falls, Ohio does of course.

The last game meant the rival game against the undefeated Jetson High Jaguars. In real life, a Jaguar would just eat a ferret so how were we supposed to beat them? We were 8-1 this year and with this last game we had to make it count. It was also the last game for the varsity seniors.

Being the captain, Coach Griffen said for the last game that I could come up with the game plan and he'd revise what he thought was necessary. So far, I had no plan.

As I scarfed down the last of my bagel and combed my slim fingers through my brown hair in the kitchen mirror, I ran out the door and down my driveway to my BMW that was parked neatly next to the mailbox. Besides a few break ins in the past, my neighborhood is pretty safe and standard. I lived in one of the more well off neighborhoods in my town. It was one of the ones where all of the houses looked the same if you didn't stare too hard.

Just as I unlocked the car, my neighbor jumped inside before I could protest. I got in and looked at her and said,

"Hey cutie. How about a kiss?"

"Only if you say please." she replied back in a teasing tone.

"Please?" I added puppy dog eyes for the effect.

She smiled, "How can I say no to those big green eyes?"

She leaned over and our lips met in a short but sweet and delicate kiss. I smiled at her and started the car.

My girlfriend Amanda has been my next door neighbor since second grade. We never had the same friend groups until sophomore year, and even then we never really spoke to one another. We happened to have science together last year and she was my lab partner. After a while, you could say our chemistry just blossomed.

It didn't help that her blond hair and blue eyes made me swoon over her. She was beautiful and I wanted to be with her. She had the most beautiful smile even though she had had braces in seventh grade.

We finally turned into the school parking lot and I almost hit someone who suddenly jumped in front of my parking spot.

"Dammit Jackson!" I blew my horn and parked while he walked off laughing. I hopped out and ran after him. He never saw me coming until I punched him in the gut. He quickly retaliated by tripping me and slapping me in the head. Three years of middle school wrestling kicked in and I flipped him over from on top of me. We probably looked like idiots wrestling in the lot until Dean Pratts came and broke us up.

Jack and I had laughed at the Dean for taking it so seriously and walked into the school.

Jack was my best friend and has been since the beginning of fifth grade.

"How you been Roger?" He looked back to where Amanda was talking with her friend Becky. "You uh, hit that yet?"

"No, but I'll hit you if you ask again."

"Come on Rog I was just joking around!" He laughed and smiled.

When we arrived at my locker, I couldn't help but groan.

"Your fans are here Rog." I looked at Jack and shook my head. There were at least twenty people standing around chattering waiting for me to show up. This is how my life was for the past two years here. I couldn't really tell you when I became so "popular" because it all happened so quickly.
