-Chapter 5-
{August 19th, 2:37PM}
I was woke up to a clean bed. Tape was placed across my ribs. Then I heard him. Jai. He was sleeping. But then I realised he was still here. Why? Why did he care about me so much?
"J,Jai?" I said weakly. He looked up at my sleepily. Our eyes met, and he smiled from ear to ear.
"Charlotte, I was so worried, I thought, I thought you were dead."
"It's okay, what on earth happened?" I held his hand.
"Well, you've been out for 2 days. You have a severe concussion and you broke a rib."
"No Jai, I mean, at the house."
"Oh. Well, it's really all a blur. We walked through the garage and saw your dad on the floor, out cold, and then a man came behind you and hit you with his gun, and you passed out. I-I yelled, I was so scared. I ran over to you and tried to wake you up. I called the police. The man started to walk closer to me. I grabbed the baseball bat and hit him upside the head. He fell to the ground and I already heard sirens. When I got to the hospital, they checked me out, for injuries. At first, they wouldn't let me visit you. I waited in the lobby for hours. I looked for your sister, and she's in life support. Then I looked for your parents, and...they..." He gulped.
"I-I know." I said, with a tear dripping down my cheek.
"I'm sorry Charlotte. It's my fault. If we wouldn't have gone to Lover's Peak we would've been home earlier. This never would've happened. I'm sorry. I'm so sorry."
"Jai, it's o-okay." I whispered. I was bawling again. Jai wrapped his arms around me. We sat there in silence for a long time.
"Well, I guess, the good news is, you'll be let out of the hospital later today."
"What is today?"
"19th August." He said.
"Oh, Oh my god. It's my birthday." I said, shocked.
"Well happy birthday." he tried to smile.
"Except it's not." I choked.
"Not...what?"
"Happy." The tears kept falling down my face and Jai squeezed me harder. A Doctor walked through the door.
"Charlotte..we have some bad news."
