"Dad?!" You ran around in the empty field as your dad stood guard to make sure none of the undead was near.

The way your father looked at you, made you feel as if he would never leave your side.

Never.

But in this chaos, you could. You didn't want to think about that right now.

Right now: you wanted to be free.

Feeling the gentle blades of slightly warmed grass under your feet was nice. Then the sun shining just right and warming your skin with soft kisses felt so amazing.

You just wanted to lay down and stare at the clouds then doze off on this wonderful day, yet you didn't. You kept running carefree around the open field.

Dad exhaled a soft sigh as he watched you. That was his little girl. You were what was left of him. You're his little girl.

If you had turned into one of those beasts, he wouldn't know what to do with you.

Kill you? No, he couldn't live with himself.

Keep you hostage and all to himself and risk putting himself in danger? Yeah, maybe. It would break his heart tho to see you sling yourself at him; only wanting to rip him apart and gnaw on his flesh.

Leave you to be? Hopefully someone else will find you? No. He would hurt anyone who killed you. Even if you did turn.

He inhaled sharply and exhaled a deeper sigh. "Oh my sweet, (Y/N). I'd hate to leave you alone in this chaotic world to fight on your own." dad just watched you and forgot about his surroundings.

He was thinking about your mother. Where did she disappear to? Did she get caught up in a fresh horde and get infected? She would have called.

If she could. Your mother wasn't much to leave people wondering where she was. She always let others know where she was.

Huh? Why did you look at him like that? You had your eyes wide with worry and fear as your figure appeared to be coming closer to him now.

Was (Y/N) okay? She seems scared as she tried telling him something. He couldn't hear anything as he felt the rough grasping sensation on his lower shoulder as the damn beast didn't hesitate to clamp it's teeth into his skin.

The sound of flesh being freshly ripped was a sound you'll never forget nor forget seeing. Watching the zombie come up behind your father out of nowhere was quiet scary.

"DAD!!!" You screamed, but he seemed lost in deep thought.

No, I can't lose him too. Don't take the only person I have left.

Please. I'm begging you!

NNNNNNOOOOOOOO!!!!!!

DAAAAAAAAADDDD!!!

The sound was so animal like as the zombie growled and hissed as your dad didn't even scream, he accepted this.

Tears stung your eyes as the scene before you got blurry from your crying. "Dad!!" You went to help, but his stern, weakened voice cut you off.

"Run, (Y/N)! You can't risk dy-dying too...." He whined out in pain as he pushed the zombie off him. He seemed so scared.

Never was your dad scared. He was scared because he knew you were alone now. Truly alone.

There isn't no cure to save you father. Even if there was. Where could you two go?

It's only a matter of minutes before the virus takes your father, and he didn't want you to see him like this.

"(Y/N)!! Give me the gun!" Your father came up to you as he ushered you to hurry.

Oh. You forgot your father had given you a gun to protect yourself. Not thinking, you took the gun from the strap around your waist.

Your father turned and just in time shot the zombie's brain's out. You take in air. You were holding your breath.

For what, tho? After the gunshot was heard, a echoed screeching of a horde was in the distance.

This isn't good, you thought.

"Dad, we've got to go!" You beckon him. You didn't want to accept the fact that he was already lost.

"I'm sorry, sweetheart. My little, (N/N)... Daddy can't go with you this time." His voice was soft.

No. Don't take him from me. He's all I got. " Dad..." You went to hug him as you felt your heart breaking. He held a hand out to remind you not to touch him.

"No. You can't. I'm already gone sweetie...." He seemed to be fighting now. He still had the gun in his hand.

"(Y/N). Close your eyes. Tell me about your mother. Then when you hear it. Run. Okay? Promise me." He told you in a rush.

" What do you mean? Hear wh-"

"Please!" Dad gritted his teeth as he fell to his knees, bleeding out as you could see the textures of his under layered muscles.

He was dying before your eyes as you were still trying to be selfish with him. You finally nodded and closed your eyes. "Mom. She's so beautiful." You felt your voice break.

Dad, what are you doing?

"Mom and you loved going fishing, and whenever you chased her with the worm you were using as bait, she would squeal and run away laughing so scaredly." You started.

Dad chuckles weakly, enjoying those memories. What you didn't know was your dad was bringing the gun up to his temple and was going to end his life.

He was doing this to protect you from himself.

He didn't want you trying to come look for his body that was lost to the virus.

"Turn around. When you hear it. Run." He tells you.

You nod and turn around. It felt weird since you couldn't see anything but a blanket of darkness. You felt that voice in the back of your head telling you what your dad was doing already.

You didn't want to accept it no more than the fact that you've already lost him. Even with him still breathing behind you.

The tears rolled down your cheeks more as a fresh wave was added when your father's soft voice filled your ears.

"Never forget that I love you, (Y/N). Never forget me when you're in need. (Y/N), I love you so much. Please don't give up. Do that for me? Okay? Do it for me." He told you.

You nod without realizing it. It was a habit at this point to nod. Your chest staggered with each quiet sob you let out.

"I love you (Y/N). Don't blame this on yourself." You heard him as you felt him smile weakly behind you.

Then.

You heard it.

The sound made you jump so suddenly as your heart dropped.

. . . . . .

BANG.

. . . . . . . . . . . . .

You didn't even want to run, but you knew you had to run.

You had to do it.

You screamed as loud as you could. You didn't care. They were coming anyway. They took him from you.

There's no going back and taking him and clinging him to you and telling yourself all the ways you'll protect him better.

No.

It's too late. Fate has taken your father.

Your legs moved before you even commanded them to do so.

You had stopped screaming as all you heard was the silent sounds of your heart cracking in your hollow chest just as you heard the wind whistling through your ears.

You then realize something.

. . . .

You didn't tell him you loved him back.
