Hailey’s p.o.v

I heard distant voices, then a searing pain in my stomach, I let out a whimper and I finally opened my eyes, then I felt the cold. I heard a door open and I looked and saw two women were standing in the doorway. One had her mouth open, and one was smiling.

I didn’t know these women and I started to feel tears falling down my face, “she’s awake.” “And she’s cold, bring her to the fire.” I saw one of the women nod and she slowly walked towards me.

“It’s okay, we’re here to help you, I won’t hurt you.” I felt an urge to trust the woman who was talking to me, she looked like she was my momma. I nodded, I felt her covered hands help me and she led me out of the room, and I saw a man and two other women in the room, I didn’t really see the whole room.

I saw the fireplace that she was leading me to, one of the other ladies grabbed a chair and the woman that was leading me towards the fireplace sat me down in the chair in front of the fire.

“I know you’re wondering who we are, and where you are, and how you got here.” I slowly nodded my head and I wiped my tears. I felt an ache in my stomach, I looked at the woman who looked like she was my momma, “I’m Abigail Roberts, and my son, Jack Marston, he’s sitting over there.” I nodded and looked over to where she said her son was, he looked a bit younger than me.

I looked over to my right and saw a dark woman, and she smiled, “my name’s Tilly Jackson,” I looked at the woman beside her, “I’m Mary-Beth.” “The other lady that was with me, her name is Susan Grimshaw.”

I felt confused, and upset, I remembered laying on the floor in my home bleeding out, I remembered getting colder, then I closed my eyes. I felt tears start to fall again.

I felt warm hands rub my shoulders. After I calmed down a bit, I wiped my tears away and I opened my mouth, “m-y,” I heard how scratchy my voice was. “Here, here’s something to drink.” I grabbed the cup and drank the water, it felt good.

I cleared my throat, “my names Hailey Sioux.” Abigail smiled, “that’s a pretty name.” I smiled, “thank you. How’d I get here?” There was silence in the room then I heard someone clear their throat. “We were traveling, when we saw your house, one of our men found you, with our leader. Miss Roberts here stitched you up and kept you warm, hopefully we’ll be off this mountain in a few days. My names Hosea, glad to see that you’re awake young lady.”

I nodded at the older man, “thank you.” “When we get off this mountain, I’ll find you some clothes to wear, I know you don’t want to keep those, but right now we don’t have much.” I nodded again, then shivered, I felt a cold breeze brush by me, I felt a pair of hands rub my arms again.

“Here’s a blanket,” I wrapped myself up with the blanket and I heard a door open, “my god.” I slowly looked over at the door and saw a man with the woman, Susan. “This is Dutch, our leader, he was one of the men who saved you.” I smiled, “thank you.” I saw him smile back at me, “your welcome little lady.”

~Few Minutes/Hours Later~

I heard horses approaching, and I looked at the people around me, a few stood up and walked towards the door. I watched a few go outside and I saw three men, two were on the same horse and one who got off of the horse. I watched in curiosity, “Hailey you stay here,” I nodded and Abigail ran outside and towards the two men on the horse.
