-"You really don't realize how lucky you are. You're going to be chief! Not just any Chief, no. You're going to be the first female Chief our tribe has ever had! You should feel honored." Alva said.
-"It's not that big of a deal. Plus, why are we talking about this now? I still have so many years to live before that even happens." I replied.
-"Yeah, but isn't it nice to think about. Maybe when you're in power, Brenna will finally respect you."
-"Brenna won't respect me either way. She doesn't like me because I have this opportunity."
-"Uh huh. Jealousy."
-"Maybe she'll get over it."

Alva and I reached to a cliff. We sat down near the edge. I pulled out my art book and began to sketch.

-"So what does your brother think about you being the heir?"
-"I don't think Nuffink even cares. He's always practicing his sword fighting and axe throwing."
-"So I'm guessing he'll join Berk's Guard."
-"Probably. I mean, that's what my mom has been training him for."
-"What has she been training you for?"
-"Nothing. I'm not interested in fighting."
-"Right."

Alva and I have been friends since we were three. She's my best friend who likes to ask a lot of questions. Sometimes they can get personal, but I don't mind. She's my best friend so I'm okay with telling her anything.

-"Does it ever bother you?"
-"What do you mean?"
-"That your mom doesn't train you? She didn't even ask if you wanted training."
-"She doesn't need to. She already knows. She's my mom."
-"Yeah. You're right. I don't know, if it were me I would be a little upset."

She stayed quiet. Her mother died a few years back and she hasn't really fully recovered from it.

-"Maybe it was a bad idea to talk about moms." She said.
-"Then let's talk about something else. Aren't you going to be teaching kids how to sew tomorrow?"
-"Yeah, but I don't think I'm really up for it. I mean, a sewing teacher? That's so boring."
-"It's something."
-"It's boooring.

I laughed. She's always so dramatic. I finished up my sketch and handed it to her.

-"How does it look?"
-"Why do you always ask that. It's amazing!"
-"I don't know the trees look weird."
-"It's your style. Don't expect to draw like your dad."
-"Have you seen his work? It's so realistic."
-"I will throw your art book off this cliff if you compare yourself to him one more time."
she stretched her arm out holding my book over the cliff.
-"No! I was joking!" I quickly snatched it from her hands.
-"You were literally about to risk falling just to get this book."
-"It's special to me. My dad made it."
-"Mhm well as much as I'd love to watch you intensely criticize your masterpiece, I'm going to the market. Care to join?"
-"Sure. Why not?"

We start heading to the market. On our way, Alva was telling a story about how she tried to go fishing one night but ended up falling in the water. I don't know why she was telling me this story considering the fact that I was there when it happened.

We reached the market. It was packed with people, like usual.

"Afternoon, Zephyr!" A villager greeted.

"Good afternoon!" I replied back.

We reached a fish market.

-"Zephyr. I don't have any coins so..."
-"Fine."
I pulled out a bag of coins from my satchel and handed it Alva.
-"You're a great friend, did you know that?"
I shook my head and left to look through the fruits and vegetables. It wasn't as crowded over there and I love apples.

"Hey, Zephyr." I turn around to see a boy. His name was Radley. He's a year older than me.

"Hey." We both smiled at each other and I go back to picking an apple.

"So, how's it been? Haven't seen you in a while."

"Didn't we talk yesterday?"

"Oh. Yeah. We did." He stuttered. I giggled.

-"So, Zephyr. You know that feast Gobber wants your dad to throw for his birthday?"
-"Yeah. What about it?"
-"Well, I was wondering-"
"ZEPHYR THEY RAN OUT OF MACKEREL!" Alva cried out running towards us.
"Oh hello, Rad."
He just smiled at her.

"Sorry did I interrupt something?" She asked.

"No. Just trying to pick an apple." I replied.

She reached out her hand and grabbed an apple. "How about this one?" I grabbed it. It felt right and looked good.
"Hm. Okay."

"Well, I'll see you tomorrow, Zephyr." Radley said.
"Wait what were you going to ask me?"
He looked at me then at Alva.
"It's nothing. Don't worry about it. Bye." He left before I could even say bye back. I didn't think much about it. He's just awkward like that.

-"I think he likes you."
-"No he doesn't."
-"Yes he does. He always seems nervous around you."
-"That's just how he is, Al."
-"Have you ever heard him actually talk? He's so talkative and funny. You two would be good together."
-"pfft I'm only thirteen. I don't want to start dating yet."
-"You should probably imply that before he actually asks you out. Anyway, what was he going to ask you?"
-"I don't know. He brought up Gobber's feast and then you came."
-"Oh sorry for being such a cockblocker." I shoved her and laughed.

I walked Alva to her house and then went to mine. If it's true that Radley likes me, I wouldn't mind, but I really am not interested in dating just yet. I don't think I'm ready for a relationship like that and I'm thirteen. If he ever does ask me out, it'd be pretty hard to turn him down. He's such a nice boy and really does have a great sense of humor, but I'm not attracted to him, even if he is cute.
For right now I just want to be on my own.
