A/N: I'm going to be skipping most major battle scenes throughout the story, so you're just going to have to imagine the fights. They're all pretty much the same except now Rory is involved. I'm only going to include a battle scene if it majorly influences Rory's character. For example; if Natasha dies in battle (which she won't btw), I will include that battle because it will majorly influence Rory's character.
"Come on, Steve. Think. Tony's basically the government anyway, I doubt anything will change." Rory tried to persuade Steve.
The two were in the kitchen in the Avengers apartment. Rory was standing by the toaster waiting for it to finish toasting and Steve was sitting at the breakfast bar, picking at a ham and cheese sandwich.
"I don't wanna sign it because the Avengers has nothing to do with the government and it never will." he said firmly, pushing the plate away from him, half of the sandwich still on it.
Rory sighed. "You gonna eat that?"
He shook his head and she took the plate and tipped the contents into the bin. Every member of the team (at least, everyone in favour of the Sokovia Accords) had tried to persuade Steve into signing it, and the only person left now was Rory. Tony had talked about how it would give the team more stability, Natasha tried to convince him by saying that nothing mu h would change at all and only real difference would be that the government had a better view of what was happening. Everyone had tried their best, but he wasn't taking any of it on board.
"In case you've forgotten, Rhodey is a member of the US military, and so were you. We have more association with the government than you know." she tried again. The toaster had finished now, and she was rummaging in the cupboards for raspberry jam.
Steve was beginning to get angry. He wasn't going to sign those papers even if his life depended on it. The Avengers gave him something that had he hadn't had for seventy years: a family. He wasn't going to have that taken away from him by some stupid papers. No doubt the government would shut down the compound and take the Avengers out of the public eye, operating more private missions. Steve wasn't going to allow that - he was Captain America. Him and his teammates deserved to be in the public eye, being recognised for the work they do. Yes, people die. But people die every day, and they can't save everybody.
"Are you even listening to me? Because I don't think-" Rory started saying. She was cut off when Steve suddenly and abruptly stood from the stool he was sitting on and slammed his hands on the counter.
"Yes, I am listening, Aurora! I don't want to be listening, but I am. These papers are a waste of everyone's time. You all think signing them will have some sort of magical good affect on us, but it won't. We sign those papers and the Avengers fold! I don't want that!" he shouted. Rory was looking at him in shock, taken aback by the sudden outburst.
"Get out of here. You don't deserve to be an Avenger. If we don't sign those papers, innocent civilians will keep on dying, and it will be our fault. I don't wanna carry that weight on my shoulders for the rest of my life." she argued.
"People die everyday, Aurora! Get used to it!" he shouted again.
"No! No, I will not just get used to it. The whole point of the Avengers is that less people die. It's not a publicity stunt, it's not for fame. It's to save people. I don't think you really wanna be here. Get out." she exclaimed.
"I don't have to leave. I've been an Avenger way longer than you." he fought back, sitting back down on the stool, adamant that he wasn't going to leave.
She was losing her patience with him now. She didn't want to use her power on him, but she might yet.
"Get out of this apartment or I swear to God, I will set you alight." she threatened, leaning over the counter.
He laughed. "You wouldn't dare."
"Oh, really?" she replied.
With this, she jumped over the counter and landed on his shoulders.
"I'll do it!" she shouted.
"You won't. You don't have the guts!" Steve replied, laughing.
Rory had had enough. She made her left hand into a fist and pulled the solider into a headlock using her right arm. Then she punched her left hand into his neck and started heating up her hand. He groaned in pain at first, but then stayed quiet so as not to appear weak.
"If you don't leave, I'm shooting fire at you." she threatened.
He said something unintelligible, but she didn't like it, whatever it was. At this she took her hand out of a fist and fire emerged from her fingertips, hitting his skin and dissipating before it had the chance to actually burn him. He just felt the immense heat, and Rory could tell it was excruciatingly painful for. Of course, Steve didn't know that she was hurting him in such a way so that she wouldn't hurn him. As far as he was concerned, he would have first degree burns if he didn't leave soon.
Steve didn't leave though. He hung on for another few seconds before someone appeared from the corridor and gasped in shock.
"Rory!"
It was Tony.
"You're supposed to be persuading him, not trying to kill him!" he shouted.
"I'm just giving him a little incentive." she defended, carrying on with what she was doing.
Tony ran towards the two and attempted to pull the young girl off Steve's shoulders. By now, Steve was in terrible pain and was even groaning to let everyone know.
"I draw the line at this, Rory!" he exclaimed.
No matter how hard Tony tried, Rory just was not budging. He tried again and again but she stayed firmly in place on the super-soldiers shoulders. The elevator opened and Natasha walked out. Immediately, she dropped the bag she was carrying and ran to aid Tony.
"Aurora Alexa Romanoff, let him go!" she shouted so loud that Rory got a fright and literally fell off Steve's shoulders. Tony caught her and dragged her over to the sofa as she kicked and fought back. She was going to bite his arm to make him let go, but she did want to stay alive another day, and decided against it.
Natasha profusely apologised to Steve. Even though they were on different sides, she still cared for him deeply.
"I'm so sorry, Steve. I didn't know she would do that, I-"
"It's okay." he replied, letting a quiet chuckle escape his lips at how flustered the master assassin was. "It's her that's batshit crazy, not you." Natasha laughed quietly.
"Please don't hold this against her. I let her hold a pistol when she was four years old, it's probably my fault she's like this." pleaded Natasha.
"It's fine, I shouted at her, I tried to intimidate her. I deserved it." Steve bargained.
"No. Don't take the blame-"
"It's fine. I promise. I don't hate Rory now, I just mildly dislike her."
Rory was on the sofa, talking to Tony about a completely unrelated subject. He was trying to distract her so she didn't go after him again.
"I heard that!" the assassin's daughter shouted.
"He has a good reason to hate your fucking guts, you're lucky he didn't fight back or we'd be in a very different place. Stop acting like you're the victim." scolded Natasha.
Rory rolled her eyes and turned to watch as Steve patted Natasha's shoulder and headed for the door. He put on a blue jacket and some shoes. He wasn't sure who's shoes they were, but he liked them and was going to wear them regardless.
"I'll be back in a couple of hours." he told the trio.
Tony and Natasha nodded and Rory sighed heavily as she crossed her arms in annoyance. The elevator doors closed and Natasha walked with purpose into the sitting room. She stood next to the sofa and looked her daughter in the eyes.
"What the fuck was that?"
