one last hope

this will be the last you hear from me,
gone with the wind
a child,
there is only panic
gone with the wind
a child,

Slowly, they approached the throne room.

There were still 6 guards on her sides. Protecting the surrounding people from the dangers in the middle of the two lines. The danger that they had left untouched after the recent events because it just obeyed. Resistance would've been pointless.

The guards slowly came to a halt and so did she. It. He?

And there he was; the Allfather, Odin.

"Intruder," he exclaimed while standing up from his throne, "explain your actions." His tone wasn't asking, he demanded something.

She lifted her head and from under her hood, she could see queen Frigga standing by his side, only a little bit more to the back.

"You have entered this realm, not through the Bifrost. This meaning you have used an unknown entrance. Not only that, but you have also brought harm and danger to the Asgardian citizens." He silenced himself which probably was his way of showing that she had to speak now.

"I do not mean any harm to any of your civilians. In fact, I tried to save them, which I think is what happened," she announced.

"You might've saved a few lives, you still violated rules."

"I am sorry, Allfather. But you have to understand that another human's life is worth more than the possible captivity for myself. This was no act of selfishness, to show and prove who I am and what I'm capable of, this was an act of selflessness."

A meaningful silence followed her statement up.

"Then explain to me this, how did you manage to get into Asgard and escape Heimdall's watch?"

"I created a portal myself. I didn't want to attract too much attention and that is why I made myself, how you would call it, 'invisible'.

I come from Midgard."

"What could a Midgardian possibly have to do here on Asgard, except undergoing a punishment."

And there it was. The moment she had to explain it.

She expected this to happen, but not here. Not in front of the Allfather. Not now, perhaps in a few years? When she has had time to process all of it.

Yet here she is.

"My parents recently died. They were killed and I am left with my sister. My other two siblings lived here. I returned, because this is our place of birth, to try and find any relatives that might have answers to all my questions. No success, my older sister and brother were both killed in battle and there is not a single trace of any grandparents who might be still alive. I was planning on returning to Midgard tonight until all of this occurred."

Like she didn't just explain every single thing in detail, he asked his question. Which might've been an important note she left out. Just for the sake of it.

"Who were your parents that makes you worthy enough to come back here?"

"Njord. Njord was my father. And my mother ..."

"Skadi," Frida spoke.

"Yes." She lowered her head. Ashamed. The daughter of two gods, a witch who does not know what she needs to do now that she is left in charge.

"Do not put yourself down for that. You've saved people today."

It seems that the King and Queen have very different opinions on her.

"Where is your sister now?" Her voice was gentle, almost like she was luring her to tell her everything.

"Somewhere safe."

"Do you not aught it here save?" the Allfather exclaimed.

"Not safe for her. What happened to our parents shall not happen to her."

"What about yourself?"

"I am not a priority now."

The following silence was dreadful. She did not know whether what she said made things worse or helped her get out of the situation.

It felt like the King and Queen were consulting her verdict. The more time passed the more she grew anxious. Until the moment of truth.

"What is your name." It did not sound like a question. It almost sounded like he was announcing it.

"Vaya Njorddottir."

"Show yourself."

She didn't budge. Was this what they were discussing?

"Show yourself," he repeated himself more firmly.

Slowly, but surely, she took her hood off. Her face becoming clear only for the first time. The sun shining in her eyes way too bright.

She did not know how to behave now. The fact that she had her hood up the whole time caused them not being able the see her emotions, her facial expressions. She had to keep herself in check.

"You. Your family. It has a pretty high status here. You come from gods. Therefore your actions will be followed up with no consequences. However, you will not be allowed to leave Asgard for the foreseeable future. You will be provided with a stay in the castle."

"With all due respect, Your Majesty. I cannot stay here."

"You should have thought of that before you came here."

Coming here was not the plan.

And technically I can leave whenever I want.

"Guards!" The guard right next to me uncuffed my hands.

I could ruin every single one of you right here, right now.

But that would not be a great plan.

The guard who spoke to her at the arrestation put his hand on her back and tried to lead her away. But her eyes were glued to the man sitting on the throne in front of her.

The man who holds her back from protecting her little sister. Who she promised to return to very soon.

The man who acts like he does good for people when in fact he is the one that cannot keep chaos under control.

The man, who dared to call himself a man.

And wants people to name him Allfather.

While he is a father to nothing but the troubles he causes.

How dare he sit on that throne. The throne which belongs to the worthy. The one who'll provide peace to this realm.

Not the one who too ignorant to realize he is sitting on the ashes of all of humanity.
