The beautiful blonde woman's icy blue eyes snapped open.  The stillness around her crackled like a live thing as she rose from her hidden slumber chamber.    Already the thirst burned in her, a fierce ache that never quite was quenched, that never quite went away.

As Brianna climbed the glass staircase she felt the strength the night gave her.  Powerful, exquisite in movement she walked to the balcony overlooking the ocean below.    The wind whipped her gossamer hair about her face as she looked out.    He would pay, she thought again, feeling again the hate, the anger, and the passion all rise up within her at the mere thought of him.    He'd taken away all of her choice, all of her humanity, and left behind a killing machine.  tapping her fingernails against the steel railing she smiled terribly.

Oh he would pay, Brianna thought, and suffer endlessly before she finally killed him.   Fangs glittered sharp in the moonlight.   She could be patient, had nothing but endless time before her now.   It was best to plan, to prepare for the reunion she knew would come.  She would find him, and she would not allow him to survive that encounter.

From behind her came a male voice.  Brianna turned with a slow smile, eyes upon her latest prize.  "Madame may I offer you sustenance?"  the young man asked, tousled brunette hair falling into his coffee dark eyes.

With a bored sigh she said, "You may as well, you don't do hardly anything else for me."  She smiled as he walked toward her, tipped his head to one side and closed his eyes.   What a silly fool had Gareth been, she thought, sinking fangs deep into the man's neck.  Why kill humans and toss them aside when you could use them over and over again for feeding?   All that was required was a little bit of charm.     Drinking just enough so as not to kill him, Brianna stepped back, licked close the open wounds she had created and waved him away.

The man stumbled, eyes glazed, from the room.   Brianna laughed into the night, feeling stronger by the second.   The empty hunger quietened a bit, and she leapt with the grace of a cougar from the railing to the beach below.     Walking along the shore, the waves lapping at her feet she looked up at the house she'd taken as her own when Gareth had fled.  Much more her, she thought, than the dank little castle in the woods.    She'd been through several human men as her own personal slaves since he'd left.   Though they filled the physical craving for drink, they did little else for her.

Eventually this one too would have to die, as they all had.   But for now, while she grew in power, she needed a quiet way to feed and remain unseen.    Had to have a person of trust around who could protect her home while she slept during the day.    Brianna stopped, letting the waves eddy around her bare feet.   Her cream dress flowed out from her body in the strong night sea breeze as she looked far off.   She felt him, just then....a sly whisper in her senses.    So, she thought, he was awake at long last.    Shaking her head a bit, she knew it was too soon to go for him, but somehow it reassured her knowing he was out there, and that soon enough she would find him.   She would end him, of that she was sure.     Quiet on the breeze she said, "Your death will be my favorite Gareth, know that......"

And half a world away in the darkness he smiled again.
