~~~~~~~~~~~~Five’s POV~~~~~~~~~~~
3:55pm, Stark Tower
As soon as I enter the lobby, I go straight to the receptionist’s desk.
“Are you here for the internship? Go upstairs to the second floor, third door on the right,” she says.
I nod, grateful, and head to the elevator. There are a lot of people in line for the elevator, so I take the nearby stairs. And by take the stairs, I mean I teleport up the stairs. I follow the receptionist’s instructions and go to the third door. Before i even enter I can hear the chatter of voices. How many people are at this thing?
I walk into the crowded room and go straight to the check-in tent.
“Name and age?” the guy asks. I recognize his voice as the one I spoke to on the phone. He looks as bored as he sounded earlier.
“Hargreeves.”
“Hmmmm, let me see. F. Hargreeves, right? And how old are you, Hargreeves?”
“Fifteen. It seems like everyone and their mothers came to this thing, literally,” I mutter.
“Tell me about it. And half of these kids are probably here just to see the Avengers. Speaking of, you got the color black. Remember that.”
“Why? Are we going to get uniforms in this specific color or something?”
He shakes his head. “Not necessarily, but that reminds me, fill out these forms and return them to me before you leave today. It means, you get to be interviewed by Natasha Romanoff. Have fun," he says, handing me a clipboard with papers on them.
“Okay. By the way, what’s your name?” I ask.
“Happy.”
“Sounds fitting.”
“Yup. Now please move along, kid. If I don’t check in others we’re gonna be here all night.”
I nod and take a seat at a nearby table. I fill out the forms and give them back to Happy in roughly ten minutes. Everyone seems to know so much about these Avengers. I need to know more about them if I’m going to be here. I mean, from what I heard this is their lair, so they must be important.
A nearby group of kids crowd around a brown-haired guy with glasses and a goatee wearing a suit. One spots me and comes over.
“Hey, can you take our picture? We just met Iron Man!” the girl says.
I consider it, then say, “Sure. But I’m going to borrow your phone afterwards. I need to make a phone call.”
She stares at me, still smiling. If there was a prize for ‘Fakest Girl of the Year’ she would definitely win.
“Yeah, sure, whatever, just take our picture, okay?”
She turns to whisper to her friend. “The photographer they hired is such a weirdo.”
I snatch the device from her and take the picture for the little ungrateful, whiny---
“Hargraves? F. Hargraves?” I hear my name called. I pocket the phone before she can say anything and go to the black door.
A lady with red hair and a black t-shirt is standing at the door with a clipboard in her hands, looking annoyed.
“Last call for Hargraves?”
“It’s Hargreeves. Not Hargraves. Now let’s get this show on the road, please,” I say as I brush past her through the door.
The room has one single bright light and a small metal table in the center. The walls are a dull grayish silver. For some reason it reminds me of the kitchen back home. I wonder what happened to my siblings, and if they are still alive. If I can get into this competition, maybe these guys will be able to help me get back to them. Not that I want to anyway. I’m just curious to see how they turned out.
