Wendy held onto him tightly. She never liked those creatures, and now that they were shooting at her and Clay, she decided that she officially hated them now. "Uh, how far is it?"

"On the other side of the city. Can you run?" He asked ducking around the corner to put her down.

"Yeah. I'm pretty fast too." She replied her eyes a bit wide from everything.

"Then move it!" Clay said pulling her along as they ducked laser fire.

She ran alongside him, easily keeping up.

"You are pretty fast." Clay remarked grabbing her arm again and making a few quick turns. The kid started crying suddenly. "Shut it before more of them show up." Clay scolded.

"Hey. Henry. Shhh. It'll be alright." I looked at Clay. "I can carry him if you want."

"Its best if I did." Clay said suddenly going even faster and pulling Wendy into a crowd of screaming people before running and hiding them under a hover car.

She caught her breath, looking at both of them. "...how much farther?"

"A few blocks but we may have to pick some of them off," Clay whispered watching as a Telumbra got closer.

"...Ok. I'll be ready...just...I don't want to kill if I don't have to." Wendy said determinedly, even after they tried to hurt her she would rather not resort to killing.

"They're the ones doing the killing Wendy they eat you." Clay said slipping the bag off and putting the kid next to it.

She sighed, before asking, "well how do you kill one of those things?"

"They're weak in the same places as you and I but you've got to hit them a lot harder. They don't bleed out you've got to destroy their organs." Clay said starting to pull her out from under the car as the Telumbra got too close. "Summon me!"

"I summon you, Clay!" I shouted this time with no hesitation.

Clay transforms on her hand just as a Telumbra lunges at them its sharp claws and teeth extending out and black body stretching to attack.

She swung, hitting the Telumbra square in the shoulder. It was knocked back.

The Telumbra screamed and more came. "Finish him off we don't need more to fight!" Clay cried as four more ran at them.

'Don't run your brothers back there!' Clay said.

She gasped. In the turmoil, she had forgotten. She turned and saw her brother thankfully still safe. She ran back, hacking at the enemies around her.

'Watch out!' Clay cried becoming human to drag her to the ground just as a laser flew over there head. "Grab the kid I'll take care of these two."

She nodded and ran, scooping up Henry before running back toward him.

Clay punched one of them very hard but the other was too quick and slashed at his arm. Clay cried out in pain and jumped back.

"Clay!" Wendy yelled, ducking around laser fire as she reached him.

He grabbed her and ran as fast as he could, "You better know how to swim." He growled as he took the bag and kid from her and looked down into the fast-moving water.

"I do," She said breathlessly.

Clay smirked and pushed her into the fast waters before jumping in himself. They were immediately dragged out of the city at a fast pace.

Wendy got her head above water, and yelled "Clay? Henry? Where are you?"

Clay resurfaced again fighting to keep the kid above water but his arm was a bit busted and he was pretty tired. The water swept them for a while until it finally calmed enough for them to be pushed ashore.

Wendy climbed to a bit farther up the shore, breathing hard. "You guys ok?"

Clay gasped and coughed as the kid got up and ran over to you. Clay coughed up some water and hugged his arm to his side.

Wendy, after checking to make sure Henry was safe ran over to clay.

Clay sighed as he struggled to sit up. "We got to keep moving they'll be after us soon." He grumbled standing but stumbling a little.

"Hang on. You're hurt. You need to rest," She said her voice full of concern.

"We don't have that kind of time," Clay said observing the area around them.

"...We just need to find a temporary safe place. Then you need to rest." Wendy said helping him up.

Clay nodded picking up the kid and started walking. The air outside was hot and it smelled like sulfur. Ash fell from a clouded sky as Clay walked fairly quickly.

Wendy kept up, looking around. She hadn't been outside the city much, or at all, and she was taking in her new surroundings.

Clay kept walking down the dry landscape until he came to a shell of an old busted up car. It still had the roof on it and inside there was an old blanket that he sat the kid on before leaning against the steering wheel and sighing.

"Where do we go now? Those things are everywhere..." Wendy curled up next to Henry. "And my father...what will he do when he finds us missing?"

"They probably won't do anything to him so don't worry and we're far enough away that we should be safe for now." Clay said wincing as he pulled up his sleeve to look at the cuts.

"Here. Let me help." She reached into the bag and pulled out the medical supplies.

"If you give me your blood you won't have to waste those." Clay said smiling a little, "I'm guessing you have some questions about everything."

"Yes. I do." She said, cutting her arm. "First of all, why are they all after you? Is it because your different?"

Clay sucked up the blood his arm healing before her eyes. "No it's because of my hair," He said sarcastically.

"Ok, ok...Just, why do they see things differently as a threat? I mean, I know they're, like, all about order and things...but I never thought, or saw that they would go this far."

"Because I'm trying to destroy them. You were too manipulated to see what they were doing. They took away your choices, they watched your life, and whenever they wanted to one of you would disappear as a snack." Clay said casually.

"What!?" She said. Then she remembered. Those people that disappeared, and who were never found. "Holy..."

"What lie did they tell you? That the radiation killed them? That they were a danger to you? They were disrupting the peace? Or here's a good one, that they transferred to another city?" Clay asked shrugging, "How much of your life is a lie?"

"... Honestly, after learning that...I don't know." She said overwhelmed with both worry and wonder.

"Well, you have plenty of time to think it over. I'm getting some sleep." Clay said stretching before trying to get comfortable.

"Ok..." She trailed off.

Henry had fallen asleep beside her, and she smiled seeing him.

Clay was snoring in minutes as the sky darkened more and night fell.

Wendy eventually fell asleep though it was hard to relax after everything.
