Author's Note: This chapter gets a little rape-y. You've been warned.
I rush around the house, my dress still only halfway zipped up.
"We are going to be so late," I mutter, clipping the back of my earing on. I stop in from of the mirror in the living room and admire the masterpiece that I have created on my face. I rarely do my makeup, and right now I'm kind of regretting it, nothing should ever take that long to complete. Hell, this masterpiece is the reason why I'm running around like a chicken with it's head cut off.
"Will you please calm down, the ceremony isn't starting for another hour."
I turn around and see Alex slicking his hair back. He takes a look at me and sighs, coming up behind me and zipping my dress up the rest of the way.
"Thank you."
"You're welcome, but let's go before you blow a gasket. I'm gonna start the car."
He walks away and moments later I hear the front door shut. I head back into my room to grab my phone. I take a seat on my bed turning on the device and looking through my messages. I click on Cade's contact and let her know that were leaving and that I'll be leaving a few dollars for her to order food when she gets home. I finally grab my keys and head out.

As we pull up the the extravagant venue I feel that familiar ache in my heart whenever I think about him. Without him I'd be nothing and today he's receiving an award for his continuous dedication to providing on the most hard hitting and relevant news to the citizens of New Port.
We get out the car, Alex tossing his keys to the valet, and walk inside the building. Immediately we are blinded by a huge crystal chandelier, the light refracting off of the tiny gems. Heels click against the polished marble as dozens of finely dressed men and women mingle about, awaiting the start of the award ceremony. Alex heads over to the waiter who holds a tray of champagne, dragging me along. He takes two glasses, sipping one and placing the other in my hand. I look at him in preparation to protest but his stern glare shuts me up. A few of our coworkers come up to us, talking to Alex about his weekend plans, and if you couldn't tell by now he's the social one of this duo. He throws his head back, laughing wholeheartedly at some joke Tiffany told, when a hand comes to rest on my lower back.
"You look absolutely beautiful," He rasps, making the hair on the back of my neck stand to attention.
I slink away from him, turning around to give him a glare. I guess he finds it amusing though. He smirks his eyes shining in the light. Alex looks to me and follows my gaze towards him. He sighs, placing an arm around my shoulder.
"Gavin, how many times do we have to report you to HR for you to get a hint," Alex warns.
"Chill out Alex. I'm just trying to be friendly." He tucks his hands into his pants pocket, a playful grin on his face.
"Well thank you. But leave her alone."
Gavin throws his hands up in defeat and slinks away, the grin on his face telling me that this isn't over. As I shudder at that thought, the doors open to the ballroom and the guests start filing in. We walk through the maze of tables, finding ours in the center of them all. I take my seat next to Maggie.
She turns to me, teary eyed, and engulfs me in a hug.
"Oh sweetie, it's been too long."
I chuckle, returning her embrace. She sits back after managing to compose herself, and looks at me.
"How have you been? How's Cadence?"
"Were good. She's been doing amazing in school. They're setting her up to graduate early."
