1982

I consider myself extremely lucky because I was best friends with Latoya Jackson, related to the Jackson's, also known as the Jackson 5.

I had met Latoya in school when she started as a transfer student. She told me she was originally from Gary, Indiana but moved to California. She also told me later on that her brothers were the Jackson 5 and how that was the reason why her family moved.

However, that was six years ago and we had both just graduated high school. I was planning on going to UCLA in the fall, while Latoya is planning to stay home to work on her own career.

It was summer break, only a couple months before college would really start. It was actually my first time heading over to the Hayvenhurst estate, where the Jackson family lived.

I pulled up to the beautiful mansion and saw Latoya waiting outside.

"Y/n!" She shouts, waving. I wave back. It had only been weeks, but it felt like years since I had seen her. The last time I saw her was at graduation.

Latoya was having a small graduation party and the entire family was here. The entire family. That meant Jackie, Tito, Randy, and even Michael Jackson. I was so incredibly nervous, I haven't met any of them before.

I see a couple of her other friends, but other than them and myself, it was just her family at the party.

"I'm so happy you're here!" She smiles.

She's wearing a blue dress with a matching blue headband wrapped around her head.

"I'm so excited to be here and see you." I say, hugging her.

She walks us inside, where the inside of the house is heavily decorated with streamers and balloons. It's not long before we meet sliding glass doors, that reveals an outdoor patio.

The outdoor patio is also decorated with balloons and streamers, and is crowded with people. People were eating, talking, running around, and swimming in the pool.

I stick close to Latoya and her other friends, which were also some of my good friends. I felt overwhelmed and nervous because I didn't really know anyone, and it was the Jackson family.

I grab a refreshment and Latoya brings me over to Katherine, her mother, who I have actually met a couple times before.

"Hi, Katherine." I say.

"Oh hi, y/n. I'm glad you could make it today." She speaks softly.

"Of course! I would never miss Latoya's big party." We joke.

It has only been an hour, and I have met Randy Jackson and Marlon Jackson. They were both very sweet, but then I met Jackie Jackson. He was so charming and I definitely developed a small crush on him.

"So you went to school with Latoya?" He asks.

"Yes I did." I say.

"What are your plans now?"

"I'm planning on going to UCLA in the fall." I explain.

"That's exciting! I wonder what that's like." He laughs.

"I know. You have accomplished more than most people your age." I explain.

He smiles, his cheekbones becoming very prominent. "Exactly."

"Well, have you met everyone?" He asks.

"Yeah! Just about. Everyone is so nice." I hold on tight to my drink, as I push my hair behind my ear.

"Great. Well later this evening we are having a bonfire, so stick around."

"I will." I say, as we both say goodbye and go our separate ways.

I meet backup with Latoya and my other friends.

"Were you guys able to talk to people?" Latoya questions.

"Just about." I say.

"I talked to Jermaine and he is so cute." Our friend Billie says, her face turning all red.

We all laugh, as Latoya makes a disgusted face.

We sit down around six o'clock to have dinner. There was burgers and hotdogs, salad, pasta, everything you could think of. I grab a big plate of food and sit down next to my friends.

"I'm just going to get a drink." I say, getting up from the table.

I'm walking to the table, thinking about what I might get. I go to reach for a lemonade when I accidentally graze another hand also reaching for a can.

I instantly back my hand away, and turn to look who the person was.

"I'm sorry." I say, slightly laughing.

"Hehe." He chuckles. "Sorry." He says, lowering his glasses and giving me a friendly smile.

"Hi. I'm Michael Jackson."
