days in the rain,
eyes full of sleep
come home
watch a movie,
something fast and cheap
while i lie on the couch and you
turn the page
we never opened that book
anyway.

He smiled at me then, and it was like the sun coming up. We both turned away so the other couldn't see our blush. I watched a splash of sun on the kitchen floor. He seemed to be examining dust motes.

I nodded and took his arm, and we haven't looked back since.
~~~~~
it's driving at night,
all alone with the rain
which kisses the pavement
and whispers my name.
it's everyone quiet
asleep in their beds,
while delicate music
plays on in their heads.
