Short Story- For the Greater Good

A young man named Xephos walked through the corridors of Yoglabs. He'd given everyone that worked there, even Honeydew, the week off. No one knew why, but no one questioned it. Except for the man's closest friends.

The mad scientist, Lalna, Honeydew the dwarf, Nano, the fluxed girl, and Lomadia, the owl maiden.

The four knew that something was wrong. Xephos had never canceled work for anyone, not even once. It was really quite sad, but the testificates were were glad to be free.

So, on a cold night, Lalna, Honeydew, Nano and Lomadia decided to go to the man, to find out what was actually happening.

Honeydew knew that the doors would be locked, so he simply showed then a secret entrance, the sewage pipes.

"Ew, Honeydew. Is this the only other way in?" Nano complained and Lalna nodded.

"Yeah, there's gotta be another way. When I worked here we had loads of secret entrances." Lalna adds and Honeydew looks at the ground.

"Xeph got rid of them all. He feared you'd return, so he simply destroyed them all. Now, quit being a bunch of little babbys and follow me!" Honeydew says quietly, and starts walking through the pipes, Lomadia quickly following after, leaving Nano and Lalna trailing the two.

It took the four friends a while, but they managed to get into Yoglabs. Once they got out of the pipes, Honeydew led the three through the inner workings of Yoglabs.

A slightly evil/insane laugh makes the four freeze and they turn to see Xephos, but this was not the Xephos they knew. He had blood red eyes and blood was dripping down his face, his arms.

"Xephos? Xeph, whats going on!" Lomadia asks nervously, taking a step towards the man, and Honeydew steps up right next to her.

"So glad that you could make it. I was just waiting for your arrival. Now, let's play a game, shall we?" Xephos says, insanity clear in his eyes, and he rushes at the four, and the four scatter, Lomadia with Lalna, and Honeydew with Nano.

The four ran as fast as they could, but it was to no use. Xephos knew Yoglabs better than anyone else.

"Surprise!" A voice screeches and Lomadia and Lalna both scream, their legs hitting the floor even faster. They knew that he'd gone insane, that they had to get away, but Xephos would catch them. And who knows what happens next.

"Lalna!" Lomadia cries as she sees her friend get shoved into a giant tube, and his terrified blue eyes reach her own as the chamber fills with ice, freezing him.

"Lalna! Xephos, what is wrong with you!" A enraged Honeydew shouts, charging past Lomadia, and Nano stands beside her friend, looking at the frozen form of her lover.

Xephos merely cackles and grabs Honeydew, shoving the dwarf into a tube as well, and the same fate bestows upon him as Lalna.

"Now it's your turn, girls." He says, slowly turning towards the two. Lomadia and Nano scream before running away again, and Xephos laughs with insanity dripping from his voice, and he chases them, easily overrunning the both of them.

"Gotcha." He says with a smirk, grabbing both of their shirt collars, and slowly pulling them to the two remaining, empty, tubes.

"No, no Xephos please! Don't do this!" Nano screams as he shoves the youngest out of the four into her tube, where the glass closes and the ice freezes over her.

Little did they know that the words, "I love you Lalna" were frozen on her lips.

"Xephos, why? Why must you do this! To us, your friends. To me!" Lomadia cries out, and he holds her by her neck, smiling insanely at her.

"Because we all must live forever. This is all for the greater good, my dear. You'll wake up and you won't remember a thing. Not a single detail. You'll be a clone though. But your real self shall be preserved in this chamber of ice, where I can guard you, keep you safe, forever." Xephos says with an eerie calm before he shoves her violently into the tube.

Lomadia feels arm restraints go over her wrists and she looks at Xephos with cold sorrow and heartbreak.

"And to think, I actually-" She snapped before the ice froze her completely, her eyes closed and it looked like she was sleeping.

Xephos stood by the girl he'd once known so well, and he kissed her tube, before stepping away.

"It's....Its for the greater good. It's for the greater good." Xephos repeated before turning on the cloning vats, making the four all respawn where they had last been, and he left Yoglabs that night, completely back o normal on the outside view, but a ever growing storm brewed wildly on the inside, and it would never truly cease.
