Katherine's Land

Chapter 2

I took it well for a six year old. Terrified, sad, and clueless, I somehow managed to survive on my own. I had never forgotten that day. And I realize what the shadow was, the aircraft who killed my parents.

I begin to run faster than I have ever had. My legs had begun to ache and my lungs were burning. I couldn't care less about what will happen or what will. I try not to stumble over the random branches or rocks, but that is inevitable. Tripping on a branch, I fall and land with a roll. I am out of breath and I lost all adrenaline. Looking up to the sky I see nothing behind me or ahead of me. I begin to get up and head back to my house. Before I start to actually go to my house, I sat down on a big rock nerby. This time I take note of everything.

                I close my eyes. I listen to sounds around me. The leaves are rustling, the squirrels running, and the birds. The birds aren’t chirping. No chirp at all. Why are the birds silent? Standing up to look around, I see nothing.

Something is completely wrong. First, an airship came into my land. Not one thing man-made or any person can pass through my land. Second, the birds aren’t chirping. Not one day or night have all the birds have been silent. What is wrong? What can do the impossible to my land?

I pushed the thought aside. I left my house for one reason, food. That is what I am going to do, search for food. But yet, I can’t figure out why they shot my parents. And almost tried to kill a six-year old. I look around my surroundings. No food. Great. I will only be able to live for at least a week or two with what I have. Maybe I should move somewhere else to live. If an airship can pass through my land, maybe I can finally leave. See what the world has become. If I leave, I need to say goodbye to one thing.
