Hey guys, this is my first story I've ever uploaded to Wattpad. I've read a ton of stories and it made me motivated to try and write my own!

Funny story: I actually came up with the idea for this story because it's a situation I've found myself in before. In middle school I hated this one guy, but then he and I became close and I realized I liked him. I developed a crush on him, but eventually he started dating one of my friends. I cherished my friendship with the girl too much to ever say anything or do anything about this crush I had on her boyfriend. Needless to say, eventually my crush passed but years later I found out he actually liked me back then too, but he never did anything because he thought I didnt like him. 💀

Soooo hence the plot of this book was born. Again, this is a VERY LOOSELY based plot. I never ever had a relationship with this guy, we never did anything more than friendly, I never had any drama with my friend... etc. But I figured that a book based on the idea of having a crush on your friend's boyfriend would be interesting and I could add my own twist to it.

So Voila. Enjoy my first real story; it is a little cliché at times, but I hope you can get past that and enjoy the story for what it is. I love you all!! Okay I'm done babbling now, here's what you really came for:

Sydney's sobs filled my ears as I slid into the seat across from her at our normal lunch table that we had sat at for the past few years. Our friends Lily, Ashlyn and Makayla whom had already been sitting there with Sydney comforted the crying girl in hushed tones and awkward side hugs, hiding her away from the peering eyes of the curious students that also occupied the lunch room.

With a raised brow, I silently asked them why Sydney was crying her heart out without vocalizing it. Turning to her side, Lily gave me an answer.

"Jake broke up with her last night over the phone," Lily stated, rubbing Sydney's back as Sydney continued to wail, her makeup staining her cheeks as the teardrops ruined her applied eyeliner and slid down her face, creating a trail of black smudging. Not knowing what to say or do, I nodded, picking up my slice of pizza I had bought from the school's cafeteria and bit into it, savoring the cheesy flavor.

"If I'm being honest, thank god," Makayla stated huffed crossing her arms.

Sydney shot her head up briefly glaring at her, her blonde hair flying over her shoulders. "Makayla! Really?" Sydney chided, her blue eyes narrowing at her friend.

"What?" Makayla asked incredulously, picking at her small salad. "He was never a good guy and he didn't treat you well at all. He was an ass... a nincompoop. You could do so much better than him Syd, and I for one, am glad that you guys are done because now that gives you the chance to find someone who is better and will treat you like the most amazing girl in the world."

Although the rest of us didn't want to add anything to that, too afraid to make Sydney more upset, we all looked at each other, secretly agreeing with what Makayla had said. Jake was a sleaze. I knew from the beginning that Jake was no good, but Sydney was so happy that he had actually noticed her, so I let it slide, thinking that she deserved to be happy.

Sydney gave a shaky chuckle, slowly wiping at her eyes. "You're right Mac, he was a nincompoop." The small movement of the corner of her lips turning up gave us all the indication that Sydney was feeling better and that she wasn't completely shattered. "He doesn't deserve me or my tears."

"I believe this is cause for a celebration; to getting over Jake!" Lily quipped, raising her water bottle.

Ashlyn nodded and rose her bottle as well, smiling at Sydney. Slowly, all of our drinks were raised in the air as they clinked, and we yelled 'cheers' and then the rims of our cups all touched our lips as we took a sip to finish the cheer.
