Right Here Waiting

"We've been together ten months Dianne. Ten whole months Joe Sugg has kept a girlfriend. What the hell?!" Dianne giggled and walked over to where he was making them both coffees, wrapping her arms around his waist and sliding her hands into his back pockets.
"It only seems like yesterday you nervously asked me to be your girlfriend" she said, smiling as the memories of that day swam to the forefront of her mind. How Joe had been messing up his foxtrot because he was nervous of asking. How she had pretty much forced it out of him.
"Oh god, I was terrified." Joe cringed at the thought of how much of a wimp he must have looked. "It's a good job you stopped me dancing or I might not have asked you!"
"I would have asked you sooner or later if you'd never plucked up the courage to ask me. I think it was pretty obvious I was going to say yes, don't you think?"
"No" Joe said abruptly, "I didn't know if you were ready for that so no, it wasn't obvious."
"Sorry" she giggled as the coffee machine finished making the drinks, "coffees done."
"Well, get your hands out of my pockets so I can get them before they go cold."

Joe finished his work for the day and walked through to the living room to find Dianne. He sat next to her and laid his head on her knees, looking up at her with a loving expression. Even though she was invested in the Instagram explore page, Dianne held her phone in her right hand and ran her other through Joe's locks. Eventually, she got bored of her phone and switched it off, dropping it onto the sofa beside her and turned her focus to her boyfriend, whose eyes were gazing at her, full of love.
"Joe, you look like a puppy. Your eyes are all big."
Joe squinted at her, narrowing his eyes as much as possible. "I don't know what you are talking about."
"You're an idiot" she laughed. Dianne played with Joe's hair with both hands and gave him a head massage whilst he laid purring like a cat.
"You sound like a cat."
"So I look like a puppy, and sound like a cat. That's a new one."
"Oh shut up." Leaning down, she kissed his nose before she sat up again and stopped rubbing Joe's head. "My turn."

That night, Joe laid awake in bed, his mind racing. Him and Dianne had been together for ten months and he knew he wanted to be with her for the rest of his life; he was pretty sure Dianne felt the same way. They hadn't spoken about their future as a couple much, and he wanted to know what she thought about it all. Admittedly, he was too shy and worried to ask. His over-thinking took him down the path of negativity as thoughts of her not wanting the same as him drifted through his sleepy brain. It was what was keeping him awake, the anxiety that Dianne didn't think of their relationship as a more permanent thing. These things had never bugged Joe so much before but now he had permission from both Mark and Rina, the idea of a proposal popped up in his thoughts way more. Joe just wanted to know if Dianne thought the same way. She must do, surely?

Still awake an hour later, Joe laid peacefully in their bed. Dianne had been asleep for ages, as far away from Joe as she could be- the Uk was experiencing a heat wave and being too close to each other was uncomfortable. The covers had been kicked off her body as she had fallen asleep, leaving her half over Joe's body. Joe had gotten way too hot and pushed it to the bottom of the bed. It was getting later and, as a result, their bedroom was slowly cooling down and Joe, who was in just his boxers, could feel goosebumps shooting up on his skin. He sat up and pulled the covers back, running his hand over Dianne's leg to feel if she was cold or not. Laying the covers over them, Joe leaned back, careful to not wake Dianne, and continued staring at the ceiling. Out of nowhere, he got a notification from his phone, the noise seemingly ten times louder than usual. As he reached to turn 'do not disturb' on, Dianne began to stir beside him, stretching out her legs and turning over to face Joe.
"What was that?" She asked groggily.
"Nothing baby girl, go back to sleep" Joe whispered into the darkness.
"What time is it?"
"Pretty much two."
"You haven't been to sleep yet have you?"
"How can you know that?" Joe questioned, shocked.
"Because you sound very awake and the covers are back over the both of us. Can't you sleep?"
"Not a wink" he sighed, "just can't seem to slow my brain down."
"What are you thinking about?" Dianne asked as she moved closer to him, stroking over his leg with her foot.
"The future."
"That's a weird thing to think about at two. Most people think about embarrassing things they've done at this time."
Joe chuckled softly, "You are so unique. And I love it."
Dianne grinned. "I know. Anyways, what about the future?"
"Our future. Together. I'm just worried we don't want the same" Joe admitted, finding Dianne's hand and holding it in his.
"What do you mean?" She asked softly.
Joe sighed. "I'm just over-thinking it, it's fine. Go back to sleep Di."
"Tell me" She cooed, bringing his hand to her lips and kissing it gently.
"I guess I just worry that... I don't know... you will you get bored of me?"
"Don't be silly" she said, "I could never. I want everything with you."
"What do you mean by everything?" He asked, feeling his heart beat quicken slightly.
"Marriage. Kids. Nice house. Dog, maybe?" Overwhelmed with relief, Joe immediately found Dianne's lips and kissed them with a slight force.
"Good" he whispered, "thank god."
Dianne giggled. "So, we do want the same then?"
"Yes we do. How long would you wait until you were... ready to get married?"
"Well, I always said I want to be with someone for at least a year and a half before." Joe's heart sunk a little. "But, if you asked me like right now, just know I wouldn't say no."
"Would you say yes?" He asked nervously.
"Probably."
"Not definitely?" Joe's tone showed that he felt a little upset.
"Of course I would silly. I can't wait to marry you." Joe kissed her again.
"Next question."
"Go on" she said, turning onto her back and staring at the ceiling.
"Uh kids." Joe swallowed thickly, "when would you...uh-"
"Want them?"
"Yeh."
"Not yet. When I'm like 31 or 32."
"And you'd want kids with me?"
"You're ridiculous. What do you think? I'm not the type of girl to run away and shag someone else, am I?"
"No, sorry." Turning back over, Dianne shuffled closer and kissed his nose.
"I do love you with everything, you know that don't you?"
"I guess" Joe said quietly. He had never been so in love and it was a relief to know she felt the same.
"I've got a question" Dianne said this time.
"Fire away."
"When do you want to get married?"
"I'd marry you right now if I could. I've wanted to since, well since 2016."
"So soon then?" Dianne laughed, squeezing Joe's hand. "You are so cute."
"Soon, but not yet. I don't think it'd be good timing. Besides, I want to propose properly, just so you know."
"Well, I'll definitely say yes so don't feel so pressured."
"I'll try not to." Dianne shuffled closer and rested her head on Joe's pillow, so close the sides of their heads touched.
"Would you want to move away from here?" She asked.
"Yes, I don't want to raise children, sorry our children, in central London. I'd like to do it somewhere peaceful, away from the public eye."
"Our" Dianne repeated quietly. It still baffled her that she had Joe, and him wanting her children made it even better. "I feel the same way. A big-ish house in the country sounds amazing."
"Somewhere where you can see the stars at night. Somewhere that actually gets quiet."
"That somewhere sounds perfect" she whispered.
"Anywhere is perfect with you Dianne" Joe said so quietly that he only just heard it.
"Do you feel more relaxed now that you know you were over-thinking everything?"
"Yep, thank you." Joe kissed his girlfriend and cuddled into her. "I love you."
