I'll Be There For You

Chapter 1

Sonny is in complete shock as he gently takes Emily into his arms. He gently strokes her hair with his other hand.

''Oh, my god! Sweetheart, I am so sorry. How long have you known? Are you seeing a doctor to see what your treatment options there are?"

Emily gently lays her head on his shoulder as she wraps her arms around him.

"Yes, I am seeing a doctor and she wants me to start chemotherapy and radiation but it costs so much money and I am not sure if I can do pay for it."

Sonny gently pulls back so he can look into her eyes as he reaches out and lifts her chin so that she can look up into his eyes.

''Hey, it's going to be okay. I'm right here. You don't have to worry about anything. I'm not going anywhere. I'm going to stand by your side every step of the way. Have you thought about telling your family?''

"Yes, I have and I don't know if I can tell them on my own."

Emily replies to Sonny as she pulls back from him.

"All right. Well, if you want we can tell them together. We can tell them that you and Zander broke up before you left and that while you were away at college you and I started talking and things between us turned more romantic. Are you all right with that?''

Sonny asks Emily as he gently strokes her hand.

"What?"

Emily looks at him unable to take her eyes off of him.

"You'd do that for me?"

Sonny looks at her as he leans into her gently stroking her face.

"Of course. I'd do anything for you, sweetheart. You know that. Now, no one in the family knows that you're here, right?"

Emily pulls back a little so she can look up into his eyes and shakes her head no.

"All right. Why don't you come and stay with me. We can come up with a story for your parents while your getting settled. What do you say? Are you cold?"

Emily nods her head.

"Yes."

Sonny replies back to Emily as he takes off his coat and gently helps her put it on.

"Come on, let's get out of here and get home."

"Thank you, Sonny. For everything your doing for me. I owe you."

Sonny looks at her shaking his head.

"No, no. You don't owe me anything. Sweetheart.  You're Jason's sister. You've always held a very special place in my heart, Emily. Your not going to have to face this alone because I'm going to be right here by your side every step of the way holding your hand."

Sonny replies back to her as he still has his arms wrapped around her.

"Mmm. This feels nice. Oh, my gosh. I'm so sorry, Sonny."

Emily leans herself back against him as she wraps her arm around him only to quickly pull away from him.

"Hey, look at me, Emily. You don't have to be sorry. I know what you're saying.. It does feel good. Come here, we can stay like this for as long as you want. I meant what I said. I want to help you through this. Every step of the way."

Sonny replies back to her as he takes her hand in his and leads her back so she is leaning in wrapping his arms around her waist while in front of the car. He leans in gently kissing the top of her head.

Emily sighs as she rests her head against his chest while she wraps her arms around his waist.

"You're right this does feel good. I almost forgot how it feels to held by you."

Sonny smiles hearing her words as he gently wraps his arms around her waist a little tighter.

"I know what you mean. I've missed having you in my arms. Are you sure that you're alright with the plan to move you into the penthouse and we'll take it from there?"

Emily looks up into his eyes as she nods her head.

"Yeah, it's going to take some getting used to but I'm sure that I will. I just hate that I'm dragging you into my mess when you have your own stuff."

Sonny looks at her as he reaches out gently lifting her chin up so she can meet his gaze.

"Emily, look at me. Nothing is more important to me than you. Everything else can wait. You are my number one priority."

Emily looks at him as she feels herself getting lost in his eyes when he reaches out his hand for her to take as he slowly pulls her back into his arms.

"Let's stay here for a little while longer and then we can go and deal with your family. Right now I want to take advantage of any time I get to spend with you while we're alone, don't you?"

Sonny smiles back at her as he reaches out gently lifting her chin up so her eyes can meet his.

"I want the same thing. I have really missed being home but what I have really missed is you. Come on, let's get you home. I'll have Francis go get your stuff from the Quartermaine's later while we work out a story to tell your family. How's does that sound?"

Emily pulls back a little so she can look up into his eyes.

"Thank you for always being so good to me. I've really missed you while I was away. Thank you for agreeing to help me come up with a story to tell my family while I'm going through this. I owe you."

Sonny looks at her as he gently lifts her chin so she is looking up into his eyes.

"Emily, look at me. You don't owe me anything. I've really missed you while you were away. Did you get the packages that I sent you?"

"Yes, I did. My roommate was very jealous especially when you sent me the dozens of roses. Don't even get me started on what you bought me for my birthday."

Sonny gives her a glimpse of his dimples as he wraps his arms around her waist as little tighter.

"What can I say? The woman of my dreams deserves nothing but the best. What did you tell her?"

Emily returns the smile before she leans up and returns the kiss before she replies back.

"I told her that they were from my incredibly handsome and extremely wealthy older boyfriend who I'm head over heels in love with. Sorry, it was the first thing that came to my head."

Sonny smiles at hearing her answer before he leans in gently cupping her face in his hands again.

"Hey, you don't have to apologize for anything. I'm glad that you told her that because I've been thinking now that you're back if you want we can make it official by going out to dinner tonight. Emily Quartermaine, will you please join me tonight for dinner?"

Emily looks at him smiling as she reaches out gently stroking his face.

"I'd love to join you for dinner tonight. Absolutely." 

Sonny smiles back at her before he leans in gently kissing her softly on her lips.
