PRESS THE STAR <3

~Rodriguez Mansion 1989~

"The CIA is not able to function on its own any longer." Richard Rodriguez sighed.

Tamara McDowney looked at her boyfriend in confusion. Her father had not mentioned anything about his agency weakening.

The Rodriguez mansion's living room was occupied by their friends Kyla Rivers, Hardin Walters, Lilly Knight, Alaric Reynolds, Cassandra "Cassie" Holden and Eugene Batten.

"But the CIA has been standing its ground since generations! How is it possible that it needs help?" Cassie wondered aloud.

Tamara nodded at her friend as they shared the same doubt.

"The CIA's files were stolen and leaked over the world. The other countries have most of the data. And with the cold war period not wanting to end anytime soon... I'm afraid the CIA may not be able to stand alone" Alaric informed the group with a grim expression.

Kyla squeezed his hand and smiled at him reassuringly. The action did not go unnoticed by Hardin who was standing a few feet away from them. He clenched his fists but remained silent, given the situation.

Suddenly Tamara's phone rang. She looked at the caller ID and looked up at her boyfriend in shock. Richard frowned and took the phone from her hands. He nervously answered the call,

"We're working on it" he said shakily into the phone.

The person on the other end sounded furious. "No not yet." Richard replied.

Richard then wore a look of disbelief, "But... we?"

Richard nodded and walked out of the room, Tamara stood up and followed him.

Alaric and Hardin looked at each other confused. What was going on?

"This is absurd." Lilly spoke up for the first time after entering the mansion.

"How can the CIA not be this watchful? For god's sake we're still in college! How can we help them?" She asked confused.

Eugene shrugged "I don't know. But it doesn't sound good. We need to help them. Its Tam's dad Lily" he pointed out.

Lily stayed silent at that.

"Even if we do something... what is the guarantee it will work?" Kyla asked nobody in particular.

At that point Richard and Tamara entered the room with bothered expressions.

"What's wrong?" Hardin dared to ask.

"Everything" Tamara whispered.

~AYRA Headquarters, Virginia, United States (Present)~

"They what?" Rachel asked Shannon in shock.

Shannon nodded, "They founded AYRA"

"But what purpose did they serve after the CIA gained its power back?" Rachel wondered.

Shannon picked at the end of the paper, twisting it and looked up.

"AYRA continued to work under the CIA's wing and it still does. They never thought to shut it down because it was doing so well." Shannon explained.

"But how are my mother and Alaric the heads? Why not Natasha's parents?" Rachel asked.

"Initially, they were, but Nat's mother's father, who was the head for the CIA at that time, passed away so Nat's parents took over CIA and initially gave it to your parents, Kyla and Hardin" Shannon explained.

Rachel looked up at the ceiling light. Shannon had taken her Father's name. She hadn't seen him after Adrian, her brother, was born that night in the Hospital.

"But?" Rachel looked intrigued, "Why do I feel like there is a but?"

Shannon sighed, "But I have no clue, one fine day your dad stepped down and Alaric took the position. Its unclear why it happened and only the close circle know the reason. The others aren't told anything" she shrugged.

Rachel nodded, still confused. Why did her father step down from his position?

"Alright, are we done for today?" Rachel asked, looking down at her history files.

Shannon nodded, "Yes I suppose"

Shannon paused before continuing," Get you gear tomorrow, we'll be doing field training."

Rachel smiled, "Cool, I'll head home now then" she turned around to leave.

"Wait!" Shannon called out to her best friend; Rachel turned around to look at her best friend.

"You need to pick up Adrian from school, Kyla's orders" she informed her.

Rachel grumbled under her breath about her mom always giving her that job and left the tiny room.

Shannon smiled at her friend's behaviour and collected her notes from when she was trained. Her eyes fell on a file at one of the shelves and she took in a breath.

"No Way" she whispered, wide eyed. In all the years she had worked as an agent at AYRA, how had she not come across this before?

Picking up the file filled with documents, she made her way towards the director's office.

She needed answers. And who better to ask than Alaric Reynolds?
