Scarlett

The moment the gun went off I was ready for the worst. They say when you are in a near death experience, your life flashes before your eyes, but all I could think about was how much I still had left to do.

I still haven't gone to university, haven't moved into my own apartment, get engaged, married, have kids. I haven't lived yet and this power hungry, lost boy had the power to take that all away in a second.

I thought of Louis, how scared I was to lose him, how much I loved him.

There was a soft thud on the ground at impact, but it wasn't me. It took me longer than I'd like to admit to open my eyes from them being squeezed together in fear at hearing the gun shot. The first thing I did was look at Louis, who miraculously was looking back at me. Still standing and no gun shot wound in sight.

How-?

"Are you two alright?" A gruff voice broke the silence, standing at the entrance Louis came through just moments ago. He wore a bullet vest with the police department logo on it, his gun hoisted, smoking, and still pointed at it's target.

Turning my head I gasped, covering my mouth feeling bile raise to my throat. Strong, familiar arms wrapped around me, Louis guiding my head into the crook of his neck to vail the scene in front of us.

"It's okay, it's over," he breathed, his voice broken yet relieved. "We're okay."

The End
