wow! an update. just to let y'all know i'm gonna be super inconsistent with updates

America and the other country glided across the ballroom floor. The loud chatter of other countries was soon drowned out and replaced by elegant orchestra music.

Out of habit, America zoned out. Years of boring dance lessons caused him to go on autopilot and make him not really think of his steps. America became lost in his thoughts and barely paid attention to his surroundings.

You'll find a way, son, you always do. America snapped back to reality as his father's words echoed throughout his head. He remembered his mission and started scanning the room for Japan.

America blinked and furrowed his brow. Something felt off about the dance, and that's when he realized that the other country was leading the dance. America wasn't used to that (mostly because he was the one who usually lead dances) and quickly adjusted himself.

He then resumed his search for Japan. He thought he saw her near the punch table when the other country interrupted his train of thought. "Something on your mind?"

"Just looking for someone," America smiled politely.

The other country only nodded, and they continued dancing in silence.

Before they knew it, the dance was over. America tried to slip away to the punch table, but the other country grabbed his wrist again, surprising America.

"Leaving so soon?" The other country asked.

America strained a smile. "Like you said, one dance."

"The night is still young," The country offered, almost begging.

"Look," America said, removing the stranger's hand from his wrist. "It's cute how hard you try, but I agreed to one dance with you. That was one dance. Now if you'll excuse me, I have somewhere I need to be-" America tried to walk away, but was cut off by the other country blocking him. He tried to push him out of the way, but the other country didn't budge. America sighed. "Please let me leave."

"Sorry, but I can't do that," The country's voice was low and dangerous.

America snorted and raised a brow. "What is this, a hostage situation?"

"If it has to be, yes."

America could tell that the other country was trying to intimidate him, but he wasn't scared in the slightest. Quite the opposite actually. He was amused. America chuckled to himself and started to walk away, but he was once again blocked off by the other country. America frowned. His amusement turned into annoyance.

"The first two attempts were cute, but now this is getting annoying. I don't want to resort to physical violence, but if it has to come to it, I won't hesitate to break your neck," America warned, pushing the other country out of the way once again. He wondered how long this would go on for.

Apparently, it would go on for a little longer because the other country grabbed America's wrist.

"Let... Go-" America tried to escape the stranger's grasp, but the other country's grip on his wrist only tightened.

"Not until you-" The other country said, but was cut off from a slap to the face. His eyes widened and he fell over from surprise. His mask fell off and America could see hints of white, blue, and red.

"I told you I wouldn't hesitate," America said dryly. He walked away.

This time, the other country didn't try to stop him.
