Natalia's pov

"I will ask again, what are the two of you doing here."

Matt!
Does he just have to be everywhere. What is he even doing here.

"Ash, Natalia was just stopping by to buy some drugs for her friend. It just happens that I was here so I offered to drop her home."

Matt looks at me as if to confirm what Mark just said and I simply nod.

"Well fine, you can go back Mark, I'll drop her."

"No Matt, I will go with Mark, besides I know you have something important to do since you just arrived and I wouldn't..."

"Mark, I'll see you tomorrow drive safe."
That's rude, I was just talking and he just had to cut me off, like that. Who does he think he is!

Mark gives me a hug  and  Matt clears his throat behind us.

"We'll talk more, I took your number so we'll communicate."

And with that he walks to his car and drives away.

"So, can we leave already?"
He pockets both his hands before walking towards me.

"Well, just wait for me in the car, I'll just finish something real quick and come to meet you, ok?"
He hands me his keys and walks to the reception. I walk towards his car since it isn't hard to spot his car. I let myself in and just then Jessi calls.

I pick the call but hold it away from my ears. I know she's practically going to scream and that's what she does.

"Where the hell have you been? We were supposed to meet after school but you were nowhere to be found. My dear you have missed work two consecutive days, our boss is practically going to fire you."

"Well, you won't believe what happened. That Thomas guy I told you about almost killed me after school. Thank God Jack was there to help me out."

"What?But,where are you right now?"

"I'm with Matthews, in fact, he's dropping me home."

"Just take care, ok? We'll talk more on a thousand ways to kill Thomas when you come back OK? The nerve of that man"

"OK, I'll just meet you in a few."

Sometimes I'm glad I met her. She can be a pain in the neck, but she's the best.

I later called Claire and she told me mom was doing well. Her transplant had to be done earlier but her body was responding well.

I stayed for over an hour before Matt arrived. I had even considered taking an Uber but I had no money on me.
He finally arrived and without even a word, he stepped on the gas and drove off the hospital.

"What took you so long? I don't even know why you  prevented me from going with Mark. I could be home by now. But no, you chose to just keep me here for an hour."

I look over to him but he was just driving not really caring that I was  speaking to him. So I hit him on the shoulder.

" What the hell? "he hissed in pain and I smirked. atleast I got a reaction from him.

My smirking face quickly turned into a concerned one when blood started covering that part on his shoulder.

" What happened to you. "
He quickly gazed at it then continued driving. I only thought he  didn't care about others but he doesn't also care about himself.

"Stop the car!"

"What?"

"I said..."

"I know what you said"

"Then do it."

He  shakes his head and stops the car immediately making us jerk forward. I lift up the side of his shirt but I don't miss his questioning look. It looks like a bullet wound, it seems when I hit him the stitches got lose and the wound opened.

I take his first aid kit and clean it up. I help him stitch it back with quite a difficulty since we are quite a distance  apart. I offer to drive but he bluntly refuses. He resumes driving and asks for my address. After that, silence looms amongst us. I look through the window simply admiring the beauty but nonetheless, I miss Kenya. I miss the nature, the food the people, everything.

"Aren't you going to ask about my injury?" By now we were some few blocks to my home and it surprised me he was trying to make a conversation.

"I'm not going to. It's not like you are even going to tell me about it anyway." I keep looking outside but from the corner of my eyes I see him looking at me. This time, he looks at me much longer that if I hadn't known him. It would have freaked me out.

He cleared his throat noisily before focusing back on the road." I know I'm not on your good books. Scratch that, we are not even friends. But if you really have something to share with me, I'll always be here."

This wasn't the Matthews I know. He's acting all concerned for the first time. But like he said, we aren't friends. So no need to tell him about me.. My illness.

My illness.

I had almost forgotten I was sick. I'm going to die. It can be now, three days from now or even next month. I can't get close to people. When I die, it will crash them. It will leave them hopeless. That's what my dad's death did to mom. I watched her cry herself to sleep on the days she said it was supposed to be his birthday, or their anniversary. But she would cry all the more on the day he died.

I know I will also be broken if someone close to me dies. So, I'm going to keep a distance from them. So that when I leave, they won't even realize it. They won't cry on my birthdays or on my funeral. They won't be broken like the way I watched my mom.

"We are here." I look around and we were at my house.
"Thanks." I try to walk out but he's quick to hold on to my arm. I spare a look at our conjoined hands before looking back at him. The stupid sparks erupt in me and my body shivers in excitement.

"Aren't you going to invite me in?" I  look at him for a while to see if he was kidding but he wasn't.

"Sure. Come in." I just hope Jessi doesn't skin me alive.

We walk inside and I'm met with Jessi walking around anxiously. When she sees me she gives me a tight hug mouthing her concerns to me. She pulls away but then she looks at my back surprised.

"Ash, Ashton?"

"Adriana?"
