When the Veil is Gone

All around me

Is a crumbling room

That's spinning at unimaginable speeds

Rocks fly through the air

And past my face

Leaving scratches that slowly drip

Blazing, red blood

That burns against my skin

I can't run away

My hands are chained to the floor

Bright and colorful lights flash randomly

Blinding me

The ghost of a scream rips its way through my throat

But no sound escapes me

My vocal chords have already been cut

Tears leak from my eyes

My voice was all that was left

Now I have nothing

The room has bars on all windows

Preventing even the thought of escape

Not that I could reach them if I tried

They sit at unreachable heights

And I can't make myself move anyway

The chains that hold me

Bind my will as well as my hands

They keep me from advancing, breathing

Or even moving an inch

The chains rattle even though I lay still

Taunting me

"You will never escape,"

Through all the noise

I can hear my friends

"You can fight this!"

"You're stronger than this!"

"We're here for you!"

"Please come back!"

"Fight it!"

"Please,"

"Are you still in there?"

"Please, please, keep fighting."

I hear the voices of my "friends"

Screaming at me

"What's taking so long?"

"Hurry up!"

"Just give up,"

"What's your problem?"

"Are you really this weak?"

"You're better off dead!"

I hear the voices of my peers

Yelling and screaming at me

Nothing that they say is good

They tear at my heart

Scrape my lungs

Break my mind

Until I'm saying the same things

About myself

The voices fill my head
