A/N: Interlude 5 is coming soon. It's going to be a long one though.
Word Count: 2000 words.
Ingram
Ingram and Mason shoved the last of their stuff into the car as they noticed Aaron's car coming towards them. As the car drew closer, Ingram noticed Aaron and Eleanor were seated in the front while someone was sitting in the back.
The car came to a halt a few feet from theirs. Ingram heard the house door behind him open and turned around to notice Rebecca walking towards them.
Of course. Ingram thought, sighing softly.
Aaron and Eleanor stepped out of the car and Ingram realized who was with them: Mary Adler.
Good lord. Ingram thought as she stepped out of the car.
"Bex!" Mary said, hurrying towards Rebecca.
"Mary!" Rebecca said, almost managing to top Mary's enthusiasm, which, let me tell you, was a hard thing to do.
"God, how long has it been?" Mary said, hugging Rebecca.
"Feels like an eternity." Rebecca said as Aaron and Eleanor grabbed their stuff from the car.
"Hey." Ingram heard Aaron's voice to his left.
He turned to notice Aaron holding two bags. Ingram moved aside to let him put the bags in the trunk.
"Hey I'm sorry about this." Aaron whispered as Mary and Rebecca talked.
"It's fine." Ingram whispered as he closed the trunk.
"God, we should get some coffee and reconnect." Mary said.
"I don't have anything particularly important to do. You wanna go right now?"
"I don't have to be at work for a few hours. So, I've got some time to kill."
"Great, I have four hours to spend before I have to get to court."
"I'll drive." Mary said, moving aside and gesturing to the car.
Rebecca walked towards it. "You kids gonna be fine?" She asked, turning to Aaron and Ingram.
"Yeah, we're good." Mason chimed in from behind Ingram.
"We should get going." Ingram said.
"Yeah." Aaron nodded.
Mary walked up to Aaron and hugged him. "You need anything, you call me, okay?"
"Mmhmm." He said, struggling to get free of the hug. "We're getting late."
"Right." Mary let him go. She turned to Eleanor. "Look after him, will you?"
"I promise." Eleanor said, giving Mary a warm and comforting smile.
"Thanks." Mary said, walking away to her car. All of them watched as Mary and Rebecca got in and drove away.
"Look," Aaron said as the car disappeared around a corner. "I'm sorry. I didn't mean to intrude on your thing. We won't get in your way. You won't even know we're there."
"It's fine. I promise." Mason put a hand on Ingram's shoulder. "We're glad to have you with us."
Ingram clenched his jaw so hard he thought he'd shove his teeth through his gums. "Of course." He managed to say.
He moved away to the front and Mason followed him. Aaron and Eleanor got in the back.
Mason and Ingram got in as well.
