Winter's Bloom

Cold and bitter against smooth skin
It was darkest this night
While the stars danced                                 Swimming in the galaxy

The trees were bare
The ground iced over
And layers of dew formed
Across the spread of land
While the earth wept in agony

I watched in the distance
As a mother lion gave birth
Felt a pang of sadness
Knowing that her cubs would not survive
Because the winters consumed life
And there was no joy on earth

I watched my people crumble
Dying one by one
Where was anyone safe?
I no longer could answer that question
But still I hoped for life

I cried no longer able to see
I had gone to my rest
But I would be back soon
And at nighttime I would sit and watch
As life became dark and evil

I wished for a better life
For a more warm and loving place
But never was my wish fulfilled
Because my eyes could only see darkness
I stared as the tears fell from my cheeks
