I can already tell I'm running late by the sound downstairs. I glance at the clock before grabbing my bag and sprinting down the stairs. "I'm sorry! I overslept."

I say to my mom as she gives me a skeptical look. Turning around, I grab the milk out of the fridge and set it on our mahogany kitchen table.

"What?" I say to my mom as I can feel her eyes on me.

Giving me a warm hug she says, "Nothing honey, I just can't believe you're a senior, class of 2089 seemed like little kids just yesterday."

I groan internally before saying, "Mom please don't do this today. You still have to show up to work today no matter how 'morbidly depressed' you are." She gives me a sidelong look before heading to her room.

Relieved, I grab the milk and pour it right as my best friend storms in my house. "Oh please, August of course you can come in." I sarcastically remark before earning a glare. "Jesus Lissa, what are you doing? We're going to be late!" She practically screams, I sigh and toss my bowl of Frosted Flakes in the sink and grab my bag.

"Bye mum! Love you!" I say before shutting the door and walking to August's red BMW. We're already flying down highway 25 when I start messing with the radio before settling on a Daughtry song. I flip down the mirror to check my makeup when August says, "You can't go a bloody five minutes without taking a look at yourself!"

I shrug before flipping the mirror back up to focus on our surroundings. We are about 20 minutes away. I honestly can't believe that today is the first day of my senior year. It feel as if I literally just started high school. I just hope college is at least half the fun. High school has honestly been the best few years of my life. I never had that many friends in middle school so when I met August and the rest of our friends it was a blessing. We were that group of kids who wore Vans and black skinny jeans. Where as I didn't think we were 'emo' the stuck up preps seemed to think that was the case. I've never even cut myself, and black is definitely not the only thing I wear. In fact, as I began to take in my appearance I realize I'm not wearing it at all. I'm wearing my new white Vans, red skinny jeans, and a Green Bay Packers hoodie. So take that idiots.

We're about 5 minutes away from school when I notice we've stopped. "What's going on?" I ask.

"All these idiots in front of me have seemed to think that roads aren't for moving." August says before fiddling with the radio when I hear something that catches my attention.

"Hey wait, go back to that station!" August turns it a couple of times before finally finding what I was indicating to. It's a newscaster. "This just in, several cases have been reported concerning people randomly fainting. It is advised to stay indoors until the cause is identified....." There's several background noises before I realize what we're hearing. It's people screaming.

It's all static until a very faint voice is heard, "It's the rain!--Ahhhh!" That's the last thing we hear until the signal is lost.

"Lissa....." August says, probably thinking the same thing I am. "What do you think is going on?" I ask nervously. "I honestly don't know, it's probably one of those prank programs they do. It's only a joke." I nod my head but can't help from thinking, what if it's not? What's happening? That's as far as my thoughts travel before I hear sounds begin to build around us. That's when I realize what I'm hearing, the faint sound of rain beginning to fall from the sky. "August! What's going on?" I shout. She looks at me completely bewildered before saying, "I have no idea! It's not even cloudy!" Our attention is drawn to the car in front of us when a man steps out of his car. He doesn't travel much distance before falling to the ground. August and I gasp when we take in the scene in front of us. The man is sprawling everywhere, flying this way and that way until he goes completely still. August and I were obviously on the same the same page when we both said, "He's dead." Silence fills the car until slowly but surely, we start hearing the faint wails of people seeing their loved ones being paralyzed and killed.

That day was two years ago.
