This is my last day
I have to make it worth it
I stare out
And watch an elephant wade in the water
My scuba guide leads me down the path
I swim with ease alongside the elephant
I enjoy the moment
The elephant slows down
And we meet face to face
I stare into its eyes
the elephant is aged but magnificent
I see something in those eyes
The elephant turns away
it continues its journey onwards
And it does not stop.
I stop though
I know the danger that lies farther out
I swim back to shore
My lessons are complete.
My time is up
After I'm done I hug my scuba diver
"Thank you for everything", I say
The scuba diver hugs me back
"I will never forget you", she says
I smile at her and change out of my gear
I slip into my silk dress
And I catch the tour bus
"Ayaan it's so nice to see you", I say as I enter
The past few days the bartender,
who goes by the name Ayaan
spends his time as my driver
he is absolutely amazing
And he is proof that good men exist
"Addy, likewise", he says
He touches my shoulder tenderly
"Did you enjoy your day", he asks
I admire his blue eyes
"I did, I swam with an elephant", I say
I move away from his proximity
"And Did you see it", he asks.
I remember his words
'Addy, when you see the elephant,
stare into its eyes,
and tell me what you see'
"I did Aayan", I tell him proudly
I sit down
"I saw myself", I tell him loudly
We both laugh hysterically
He drives the bus back to the hotel
I walk to the front of the bus.
"Wait, Addy", Aayan says
"Will I see you again", he asks
We both know the answer
I lean forward and hold him tight
"Goodbye", we both whisper
I let him go with a heavy heart
He is someone worth my tears.
I watch the bus leave
And head inside my hotel
Alone but I am strong.
