"Remember that day?" I asked him replaying the scene of when we met in my head."Yeah, I do." He leaned on his desk reminiscing about that day.
"That was the best day of my life."
"Really? Why?" I tilted my head asking the question.
"Because I found the love of my life there. And I got a four-leaf clover." He laughed.
"Do you still have it?"
"It's somewhere in the house. But let's worry about that later. Let's go to the park." We gathered our things and drove in the direction of the park.
I was delighted looking at the sky. It's been a while since I've been to a park. Let alone the one we first met at. The sky was already starting to set, the white clouds turned into cotton candy as it blanketed across the sky. My heart pounded in my chest asking for a way to escape the prison of my ribs. I looked over at the person my heart beats for. He looked impatient, his hands and feet tapping against the car. I smiled at his movements, and he smiled back.
"I can't wait." He said rolling the window down.
"Will you push me on the swings?" I giggled at the thought. We were still wearing suits, and it'd be funny if he pushed me in his attire.
"Definitely."
After a few more minutes of driving, we reached the parking lot of the park. I stepped out of the limo and took a large breath. The air was crisp and cool and had a fresh smell that circulated throughout my lungs. He grabbed my hand and we intertwined our fingers. The pathway was falling apart and had several cracks with large holes. The park was pretty old but many people still came as it was in the middle of my old neighbourhood. I grew fond of this place. I had many memories that I couldn't forget and suddenly I got hit by a wave of happiness.
We finally reached the playground and my body swelled with nostalgia. The feeling of pure happiness filled my heart. I used to come here all the time with my family and now I'm going to start a new one with him. I glanced at him, even though it was dark I saw the happiness in his eyes as they shone in the sunset. I raced to the top of the slide and sat at the edge; he raced me there. I felt like a child. I was always busy with work I almost forgot how relaxing it was to let myself go. He sat beside me. The air was cool but our bodies were hot. I couldn't help but look around and take everything in.
It was like a movie. I saw the sunset upon the horizon and the clouds have begun to hug the ground. It was almost surreal. I laid my head on his shoulder, and we held each other's hands. I'm so happy. Silence filled the void until his voice occupied it.
"I need to tell you something important." He grasped my hand in his.
"I.." His voice trailed off.
"I want you to hear me out."
"I, I love you so much. I can't imagine my life without you. I know if you leave, my life wouldn't be the same and I know it's cheesy to say, but I need you. You're like oxygen to me. I can't live without you. Please, I don't want you to leave." He stood up and stared down at me.
"I'm not going to leave you. I'll stay for as long as you want." I stood up and stared back at him.
He turned his back to me and started to bang on the metal structure around us. I was confused about his actions until I understood what was happening. Fog surrounded the playground and at first, it was blurry, then I saw lights coming towards us. They were people holding lanterns in their hands, and they circled the park so we were surrounded in a ring of light. They beamed lightly in the fog. Then I saw him turn to face me. Our eyes connected and so did our hearts.
He had a smile on his face, a smile I could never forget. It was the same exact smile he wore when we first met. I smiled back at him my eyes getting lost in its folds. Then he did something that pierced my heart in happiness and excitement. He kneeled down and pulled out a small red box from his suit pocket. My brain was rebooting and my heart was recalculating. Then my whole body shook at his words.
"Will you marry me?"
My mind went blank and my eyes filled with tears that blurred my vision. I covered my mouth as it dropped from disbelief. I knew my answer but the words got caught in my throat for a few seconds.
"Yes! Fuck yeah!" I jumped onto him and planted kisses all over his face.
He stopped me and grabbed my left hand to slip the ring on my finger. My heart was having a party in my ribcage. I felt my pulse in my throat. Then we stood up. The people surrounding us released the lanterns from their grasp, and they cheered. I watched as the brightness of the lanterns slowly faded as it reached the stars. He held me in a close and tight embrace.
"Did you remember what day it is?" I stared at him through my happiness.
"Our tenth year anniversary." He kissed my nose.
His hand moved to his suit pocket and pulled out a small picture frame. He presented it to me with a flushed face. I was impressed and fell into a state of euphoria. It was the four-leaf clover I gave him nine years ago.
"I guess you're lucky." I stared into his honey eyes.
"No, we're lucky."
He kissed me and everything faded, nothing else mattered. I was with the love of my life at the place that brought us together.
"I love you."
"I love you, too."
