The Course of True Love

Char was riding down the road to Caliga Hall. She was supposed to meet Arthur over there to find more about the Grays, but she was running late. As she reached the fork in the road, she saw a group of women gathered around with signs. As she passed by the wagon, she noticed that there were signs attached saying things like "WE ARE WORTH MORE" and "VOTES FOR WOMEN".
"Oh, hello," A young, blonde woman greeted Char, "Are you here for the rally?"
"Rally?" Char asked as she hopped off of Ava.
"Yes, for the suffrage movement," she answered. Char was still confused. The blonde clarified, "Women's rights to vote, it's the first step to equality. Care to join us?"
After her experience in this sexist town, Char believed this would be something good for Rhodes. However, she did expect the men here would be hostile and belligerent at the thought of women being something more than housewives and objects. She wanted to help these women as best as she can. The brunette shrugged, "Sure, why not?"
The young woman smiled and offered a hand to her, "Wonderful! I'm Penelope Braithwaite."
Char smiled and took her hand, "Charlotte Hartwell."
"There! There they are!" A voice said from behind Char. Penelope looked toward the voice and immediately ran up to him, holding hands with him.
"Beau, what are you doing here?" Penelope whisper yelled to the young man, who Char recognized as the one who was sitting outside Sheriff Gray's office. Char looked beyond Beau and saw Arthur walking up to the three of them.
"What are you doing here, deputy?" Char flirtatiously asked as she poked the golden star on his chest.
"I'm with they Gray kid- actually, what are you doing here?" he asked.
Char stepped back with a smile, arms spread wide, "Call me a feminist."
"A femi-what?"
"Feminist. Fighting for women's rights," she proudly said, resting her hands on her hips. Arthur was at a loss for words, not because he was ashamed of what she was doing, no, but because it was no use trying to argue or convince her not to do things like this.
"I'm prepared to die for the cause, Beau. You know that," Penelope sternly said, looking back to Arthur and Char.
Beau desparately looked over to Arthur, "Do something, please!"
"Do what? Fight this mob?" Arthur gestured to the crowd of women who gathered around an older woman as she spoke, "They'd eat me alive."
"Damn right I would," Char teased before turning her attention back to the speech.
