"Mom?" Rory said, her voice unsteady with emotion.
"Yeah?"
"I'm pregnant."
Lorelai's mouth fell open and she looked over at her daughter, not at all prepared for this alarming news.
"Pregnant? How? Well I know how, but when? Pregnant... Oh wow... Sorry kid. I don't know what to say. You caught me off guard and wow. Pregnant?" Lorelai took a deep breath, pausing in her meaningless rant, trying her best to stay calm and let Rory get a word in.
"I know. I was shocked too. And I just found out a couple days ago. I've just been trying to sort it out in my head, get my thoughts together, you know? I don't know what I'm gonna do." Rory looked at Lorelai, worried she would see anger or disappointment, but all she saw was a calm façade and she waited as Lorelai calculated her response.
"Do you know who the father is?" She had a sure feeling that she already knew who the father was and it worried her. She didn't want Rory to go through what she did, raising a baby on her own, but she was not optimistic that the father would be around.
"Yeah I know... I just need to think about everything some more. I haven't even decided if I should tell him he's the father yet... I just want to wait a few days, figure out what my best option would be."
Lorelai's heart ached for Rory. She seemed so small. Lorelai had never seen strong, independent Rory so helpless. "Well I'm always here kid. Just talk to me if you need to, okay?"
"I will." Rory smiled and reached for Lorelai's hand. Sitting in the still morning with her mother, her role model, and her best friend, who had a baby at sixteen, she knew she would be okay having her own baby in her thirties. Rory threw herself into Lorelai's outstretched arms. She felt Lorelai's arms wrap back around her and a soft, gentle kiss on top of her head. Part of Rory's head told her everything could and would be alright, no matter how it panned out.
She sighed, imagining a life as a single mother, then imagining a life married to the father of her baby. Rory had done this so many times, always deliberating the pros and cons of each scenario. Now all she had to do was make a choice.

Lorelai stepped into Luke's diner and took a seat at the counter waiting for Luke to appear. She had been trying to act normal and let Rory handle her own life and tell people when she was ready, but Luke was the one person she confided in for every situation and she didn't know how to go about this particular one. "What are you doing here?" Luke asked, startling her out of her thoughts.
"What you don't want me here? I hope you're happier to see me at our fancy official wedding ceremony," Lorelai joked, trying to keep her regular caffeinated, humorous personality present, still unsure if she should tell Luke the news about Rory when Rory has barely even confided in her.
"Oh come on you know what I mean. You should be getting ready the thing is in two hours and you're at the diner?"
"So are you."
"Fair point." Luke rolled his eyes. "But seriously are you having second thoughts, some kind of crazy issue with a dress or a cake or a guest something, or do you want a cup of coffee?" Lorelai didn't reply and Luke started to realize that maybe the reason she was there was actually serious. "What... a donut?"
Lorelai inhaled slowly, looked up at Luke and finally started to speak, "Luke. I--"
"No,'' Luke interrupted her, "Don't do this. Don't tell me you're having second thoughts. We can't go back we're already married now we just have to do it all again in front of everyone--"
