the runaways
➳It was a warm day, and kids were yelling and playing outside. Dogs howled as the smell of barbecued food invaded my nostrils.
As I sat alone on my front porch, I got to thinking.
There's nothing here for me in this town, there's nothing. Besides Hyde, my friends and Aunt Penny, and Maxx, I have no one.
I want to explore what's foreign to me, I want to be free.
How cliche does that sound? I just want to runaway and be me.
I look at the abandoned looking house across from mine, Hyde's black El Camino parked out front and then I feel a tiny light bulb pop up above my head.
I stand, throwing my cigarette into the grass and trotting to Hyde's window.
I tap on the glass, peeking through and seeing him sliding a shirt down his torso.
He makes his way over and slides the window open.
"Hey, Sweetheart. Everything okay?" He asks, pulling his shades down.
"I want to leave, Hyde. I don't want to be here." I say, and I can feel tears beginning to well in my eyes, begging for a release but I blink away.
"Then let's leave, Sweetheart," He says.
