secrets

The next day is a very nice day, but I decide to stay inside and finish unpacking everything in my room.

We lost a majority of our things in the fire, but what I have left is all here, plus whatever my Aunt had bought us when we moved here.

The window is open, occasionally letting in a nice breeze whenever the wind blew, slightly blowing my curtains and Aunt Penny bring me up some water every hour or so.

I'm throwing clothes into my closet when I hear rustling outside, then I hear Hyde's voice.

"Tell me a secret, Lana May. One that you've never told anyone before." I turn to face him, he's crawling through my bedroom window.

"Uhm, come in? And what makes you think I trust you with my secrets?" I cross my arms and raise my eyebrows at the boy.

He takes a seat on my perfectly made bed.

"I'll tell you one of mine if you tell me one of yours," He says. I think for a moment, leaning against my wall.

"What do I get in return?" I question. He smirks.

"One of my secrets, of course." I scoff.

"Okay. When I was about 7 or 8, my parents had split up for a brief period of time," I begin and he crosses his arms as well as his legs, on my bed. "Okay, get your shoes off my bed."

He does as he's told and places them on the floor.

"Anyway, we had went to stay with one of my moms friends and she lived with her boyfriend and his two kids. So one day, I was in the bathroom and I was hanging on their towel hanger and it broke. So, I hid it in the bathroom closet and went downstairs. A couple days later, they found out about it and they thought it was her boyfriends son, so he got in trouble and I sat on the couch as they yelled at him, with my hands crossed completely silent because I was afraid to get in trouble. To this day, they still think it was him."

"You sick person. That poor boy was getting in trouble for something he didn't do." He laughs and I roll my eyes with a smile.

"Okay, that was my secret. Now, tell me yours." I say.

"You really wanna know my secret?" He asks and I nod.

"That was the deal," I say to him.

"Okay, fine," He says.

I wait.

"I've never kissed a girl." He says and I scoff in disbelief.

"Yeah, okay." I say and turn back around, putting clothes on hangers and hanging them up.

"I'm serious." He says and I turn back around with a coat hanger in my hands.

"Also, you look sexy in that," I look down at my cotton shorts and a baggy tank top.

"I'll throw this coat hanger right in your face, Steven Hyde," I say and he raises his arms in defense.

"Do you want me to lie?" He asks, raising his eyebrows. I set the coat hanger down.

"No, I guess not." I respond. I tell him that he better help me if he's going to stay in here and he stands. I tell him to start stacking some books Aunt Penny gave to my on the bookshelf, so he does.

He reads the titles of every book he places on the shelf.

"Steven?" I call.

"Hmm?" He stops in the middle of reading off titles.

"Shut up," I say and I look back as he does.

He zips his lips with his hands, and tosses me an imaginary key.

I drop everything I'm holding and pretend to catch the key, then act like I drop it.

"Shit, I dropped it." I drop to the floor and act like I'm looking for it. "Come help me find it." He crawls over to me and begins searching with me.

Seconds later, he holds up the imaginary key and I snatch it, stuffing it in my bra and he furrows his brows.

"If you want it, you have to get it," I say, challenging him.

He reaches out to my chest, and I swat his hand away.

"Paws off, bud." I say and he rolls his eyes. I chuckle and shake my head.

I remove the key from my bra and unlock his lips, he let's out a sigh and says "Thank God, I'm never not talking,"

"Yeah, I see this." As I say this, my aunt walks up to my door.

"Steven, hi! Are you hungry? I made Lana some snacks. I can get you some if you'd like," She rushes and sets the plate of crackers and cheese on my dresser.

"No thank you, I'll just share with her," He looks at me and winks.

"Like Hell you will," I scoff.

"Well let me know if you need anything. I'll be downstairs," She says and he nods, then she walks back down the steps.

Hyde and I continue to organize my room. He asks where everything goes, and I tell him.

He helps me fold clothes that don't go in the closet and puts them away in the dresser for me.

By two, we got everything organized and in their right spots, so we sit on my bed.

I light a cigarette and we share it. We sit, listening to a Led Zeppelin record quietly.

"Thanks for helping me," I say and he shrugs.

"No problem."

A couple minutes later I sit up and face him.

"Do you want to know another secret?" I ask him, and I'm not sure why.

Led Zeppelin's "All My Love," plays softly in the background, canceling out all the silence.

"Sure," He responds.

"I've never kissed a boy." I say and he grins.

Then, he raises himself and gets closer to me. His breath fans across my face and his eyes wander back and forth between mine.

At the same time, we both lean in and our lips touch. He brings his hand to my cheek and we kiss softly.

Then we pull away and I look at him.

"How's it feel to be my first kiss, Sweetheart?" He asks and I roll my eyes.

I want to do some much more to him than just kiss him.

"I'm not your sweetheart, Steven Hyde." I say and stand from my bed.

"Not yet," he winks and stands as well.

"I've got to get going," He says and I feel a bit hurt, but I nod.

"I'll see you later," I say and he starts to walk towards my window, but turns.

"How about a kiss for the road?" He says with a smirk and I shake my head with an eye roll.

"I hate you," I say as he crawls out the window, then climbing off my roof.
