It seemed to happen in slow motion.
She was running towards me and I saw the car hit her.
She flew backwards and landed hard.
I heard a crack and the car kept going.
Tears rolled down my face as I whipped out my iPhone and dialed 911.
They told me they would be there soon.
I bent down next to Rose and checked her pulse. It was barely there. She was barely breathing, with her long black hair fanned around her heart shaped face. Her face was pale with her freckles faint. Her gray eyes were closed.
"Rose wake up wake up wake up!" I shrieked.
The driver of the car walked over to me, shocked. She had short gray hair and was wearing a long shapeless pink dress. The woman reminded me of Grandma Emily, who died last year at Christmastime.
"I'm so sorry honey I didn't mean to hit her" she cried.
When the ambulance came, they put Rose on the stretcher and I climbed in, sobbing. What if Rose wasn't OK? How would I be able to live without my twin, my best friend, my other half?
"She'll be OK," I told myself.
Still, a flood of worry and doubt sat on my heart like an elephant.
