Later that day, I sat alone in the hospital cafeteria picking at a grilled cheese sandwich and quietly sipped a crappy coffee. I was wishing that I still had a frappe from Eric. Rose was starting to come out of her coma, but she hadn't regained consciousness yet. My iPhone buzzed. It was Eric.
Hey Lily. R U there?
Lily?
Earth to Lily.I smiled.
Hey Eric.
So how's your sister?
She squeezed my hand.
I'll be there in five minutes.
Here in five minutes? I threw the rest of my sandwich into the trash and swigged the rest of my coffee. I navigated through the crowded hospital and darted into the bathroom. Rummaging through my book bag to find my makeup bag, assesed my makeup. Mascara streamed down my cheeks, and my foundation was cakey. My eyes were bloodshot and my-
I'm here.
Oh well. "If Eric really likes me, he won't care if I'm ugly," I thought. I quickly washed off all of my makeup and ran out to meet him.
"Hey Lily."
"Hi."
Suddenly, a concerned looking nurse ran up to us.
"Lily! You need to come with me now."
"Wait, why?"
"You're sister is waking up."
I turned to Eric.
"Come with me," I pleaded.
He grabbed my hand and we rushed after the nurse.
As we reached the room, I saw my parents standing next to Rose. I let go of Eric"s hand and rushed to Rose"s side. Her eyelids were fluttering.
"Rose," I whispered.
All of the sudden, her gray eyes popped open.
"ROSE!" I exclaimed.
Her small pink lips parted, and she slowly whispered-
"Who are you?"
