Chapter 6: Shut Up Igneel

     You sat with Historia, trying to read with her. Problem was, you didn't know how to read. Especially the weird things that are in this book. They were just a bunch of lines and shapes thrown together at seemingly random. Luckily for you Frieda was reading it out loud to you. Too bad you were trying to be some sort of special snowflake and figure it out on your own.
     Glancing up you saw Igneel pretending to follow along, however you doubted he was concentrating since he was sitting right next to Frieda. Knowing he'd be of no help you resolved to get this on your own. Before Frieda came to visit Historia again, so you could show just how smart you were.
     "You should act more lady like." You heard Frieda tell Historia as they talked. You did your best to tune the out. You were trying stubbornly to figure out how to read. You'd been focused on the same sentence at the beginning of the book for frickin ever now and still couldn't figure out what it said.
      "Don't fry your little brain Y/N." Igneel teased. But you were frustrated as it was with not being able to figure out words. So you really didn't appreciate it.
     You glared at him, growling in the way only dragons could understand. Igneel looked shocked and a little impressed as you growled out several chains of expletives at him. Historia and Frieda looked at you confused though, not at all realizing you'd just swore out Igneel before turning back to the book trying to figure it out.
     "Sorry. He does that whenever he gets frustrated and can't think of insults." Igneel covered for you as you kept looking at the book. Historia noticed how frustrated you seemed to be getting and leaned over. "Can you not read?" You merely glanced at her, looking so embarrassed at the fact you couldn't read. Especially after Frieda had done it so well.
     "Y/N it's ok if you can't read yet. All children learn to by then. So you'll figure it out soon enough." You looked at Frieda, looking a lot calmer now that she said that. Here you thought it was something you picked up as a near infant, when it was really something they only learned at your age. "Ok." You put the book down, feeling a lot better now.

You and Igneel watched curiously from the fence as Frieda touched her forehead to Historia. You noticed a spark pass between them, a smaller version of the lightning you'd seen when Frieda became a Titan. As Frieda came over and joined you all you noticed Historia looking at Frieda curiously, as if she didn't recognize her. However she did give you a friendly smile and wave, which she returned.

     You and Igneel walked along with Freida, headed back to the Reiss estate. "So you two never got the chance to learn to read I take it?" Freida asked you two. "Yeah. The Underground was more about survival than education." You stated. At this point. Substituting the word Underground for the North was basically all you needed to do, whether you were entirely accurate or not.
