It had been three years since you had left Forks and La Push and the truth was, you missed it terribly. You missed your school, your friends and Most of all, Jacob; your best friend whom you had left behind without a single word, not even a Goodbye. You hated yourself for that, but your Parents didn't let you tell him or anyone else for that matter about you leaving.
Had he changed at all in 3 years? Of course he would have, but how much? Would he be happy to see you again? Or would he be mad at you because you abandoned him? No, Jacob was never that kind of person. He was kind and sweet and you knew he'd understand, even though you wouldn't be able to tell him the full truth of what happened. You just... worried about everything and nothing all at the same time.
"Iris... Iris we're here" You snapped out of your thoughts, letting your eyes gain focus of your surroundings. Out the car window you saw your old house in the dark, overgrown and clearly abandoned. It hurt to see it again and in this condition. Did your parents not even get someone to look after it? Did they... not plan on coming back? You shook your thoughts again and climbed out of the car. "We'll have to take care of this in the morning" sighed your Father before going to the trunk to get some of the other bags. You glanced over at you mom as she got out of the car, her own bag in hand "Mom-" You started but she stopped you, knowing already what you were about to ask her "It's late, we'll call Billy and let him know we are back tomorrow morning, okay?" You nod slightly not wanting to argue, even though your house was so close to the Reservation that you could easily just walk there.
In the house it was quiet and cold, it was almost sadder than the outside. You had trudged your way up to your room on the second story. Everything was covered in dust, but not as much as you had expected thankfully. You didn't feel like unpacking at all, you only cared about seeing Jacob. The three years apart felt like agony and even when you tried to get over it, there was just an empty part in your soul that you couldn't quite shake. You plopped on your bed, disrupting the dust and causing it to fly everywhere. A mistake. You start sneezing. Once. Twice. Three times. Once the sneezing fit was over, the familiar feeling of your bed makes you relax, closing your eyes. You were home. Finally.
Feelings started to overwhelm you, causing your eyes to start watering up even though you tried to stop them. Then to top it off, a Familiar smell reached your nose. At first you thought it was your sheets that were previously blocked by dust, but you soon realized it was coming from outside and knew exactly what it was. You leap up suddenly and rush to the window looking outside, confirming what you hoped. Your eyes started watering more now and your heart stopped at the sight below. You quickly opened your window and peeked out "J-Jacob...?" The long haired figure below smiled softly up at you, dropping the rock he was about to throw at your window to get your attention. "W-What are you doing here? I mean... My mom said-" You asked the boy frantically in disbelief as he approached the house. You watched him carefully as he stared grabbing the overgrowth on you house and pulling himself up to your window. "Some of the boys were out and said they saw you guys pull in. I didn't believe them at first but-" He reached you window and you backed up, letting him climb through. Once his feet were stable on your bedroom floor he looked directly at your tear filled eyes, which took him aback a bit. One was a bright blue and the other an almost orange color. He could never forget them, but seeing them in person again after such a long time stunned him. "-I had to make sure"
When your eyes finally met his, your world froze for a moment. It was like you were meeting him again for the first time all over again, but you felt something else deep in your soul that you couldn't quite explain... Like as if you ever separated from him again you would die. The sudden warmth of his arms around you snapped you back into reality. You returned the hug, nuzzling your face gently into his shoulder and taking in his sent, Letting yourself get engulfed in his embrace. "I missed you, Jacob..." You spoke softly, afraid your voice would betray you. "I missed you too Iris" That broke you... you started sobbing, trying to stay quiet "I'm so so sorry for leaving you... for not saying goodbye. I didn't want to. I didn't want any of this" He hugged you tighter, then softly pulled you away so that he could look you in the eyes. "I know Iris, I know. It's okay. You're back now, so everything is fine, okay?" You nod. His comforting words made you melt. You had never felt quite this way about him before. Sure he was your Best friend and you loved him, but not like this. He carefully moved you to your bed so you two could sit down and catch up.
The two of you talked for hours, unknowing of how much time had really passed as you got absorbed in conversation and making up for lost time. "So where have you been? What was so urgent you had to leave so suddenly?" Jacob questioned you. You were waiting and dreading for the questions to come. You knew they would have sooner or later, but you had hoped for not at all, "Uhm.. well.." You sighed pulling your hands nervously into your sleeves "I uh... got really sick and the doctors here didn't have the proper means to take care of me.. so... I was... transferred to another hospital, in California" You had practiced explaining this a billion times, but it was so much harder now that he was here in front of you. "For three years?" by the face he was making you could tell he was concerned, but also not quite buying it. "Yea, it was pretty bad..." you nodded trying to convince him. He still seemed unsure, but didn't push it much more. "Well, I'm glad you're okay and that you are back" he said softly giving you a slight smile, his eye meeting yours, making you melt. "Yea me too..." you returned the smile. It stayed quiet for a little bit. It was a calming silence, once that said everything without a single sound.
"So, anything exciting with you lately?" You break the silence, regrettably... "Uh yea, Bella's back" You feel a weight pushing down on your heart. You knew of Bella from seeing her when they were children, but mostly from Jacob talking about her all these years "Is she just visiting? or" You adjusted on your bed nervously, realizing you were starting to show signs of jealousy "No, she's staying this time, I think anyway. She started school here so" You nodded slightly "How is she? Is she doing good?" You try to ease up "Yea she's doing great actually, she really loving it here. Me and My Dad are actually gonna go over to her house tomorrow, If you wanna come with? I'm sure she'd love to see you" You try not to scoff at that and stare down at your bed sheets, fiddling with the end of your sleeve. You really didn't care to see Bella, specially now with the... very sudden feelings you had for Jacob. It felt like you were jumping back into your old life again so quickly but it didn't feel like your old life... though, of course it wouldn't. Sitting here with Jacob made you forget just exactly how long you had really been gone for. "Yea sure" You give him a fake smile. You only agreed to because you rather not kill yourself by sitting in your room and thinking- worrying about all the possible things they'd be doing or not doing.
You get talking with him a bit more about things, anything except Bella, until you finally started getting tired and before you knew it, you had drifted off to sleep.
