The Competition Hasn't Even Started Yet
(008)

"Why do you keep following me?" Sowon growled in annoyance.

"We're going to the same classroom," Yoongi deadpans. "Would it make you feel better if I held your hand?"

Sowon quickly spun around in surprise, her cheeks heating up due to the suddenness of the boy's comment. "What would make you think I'd want that?" Sowon asked defensively.

Yoongi shrugged his shoulders nonchalantly, "you seemed to like cuddling with me on the bus."

"First of all, you were the one that fell asleep and put your head on my shoulder-"

"You could've pushed me off."

"I didn't want to be rude and wake you up!"

"Who says I was asleep?" Yoongi smirked.

Sowon widened her eyes. She tried to scold him, to say anything at all, but she was much too flustered to think of anything coherent. To Sowon, her incapability to form words was embarrassing and annoying, but to Yoongi, it was quite entertaining.

"Cute," he muttered under his breath before flicking the younger girl's forehead and walking into their shared classroom. Sowon was left there in the bustling school hallway, her mouth agape as she brought up a hand to her forehead.

"I'm not cute," she grumbled.

If her fellow classmates could only use two words to describe Sowon, they would without hesitation say that she was focused and driven. Always on time, always working hard, Sowon wouldn't let anything stand in her way. For some reason though, there seemed to be a new hurdle in her life that she couldn't easily get past. That hurdle was Min Yoongi.

Sowon could barely pay any attention to what her teacher had to say. Her usual habits of taking careful notes had slipped out the window. Instead, she sat at her desk, her eyes roaming around the classroom, all except where they should be; on the teacher and the blackboard in front of her.

In her mind, she replayed and analyzed every encounter she's had with her new neighbor, trying to figure out why just the simple thought of him got her so annoyed. She didn't understand why a simple hello from him would make her clinch her fists or roll her eyes. What exactly had he done to earn her disdain for him?

The truth was, she was afraid. He didn't seem taken aback by her coldness and rejection, in fact, it seemed to encourage him even more. He was pushing her out of her safety zone of seclusion, and Sowon didn't like that one bit.

Min Yoongi was different; he was bold, and reckless. He was a storm with a path of destruction behind him, and now he was heading straight for Sowon, and there was nothing she could do to prepare for the devastation she knew she would face just by knowing him.

Sowon was snapped out of her thoughts and day dreaming when a classmate placed a stack of flyers on her desk. Her eyes quickly scanned over the paper, praying to the fallen star from a few nights ago to instead grant her wish that the paper wasn't a pop quiz. At further inspection, she instead saw that it was for a music competition. Immediately, she was captivated by whatever information came on the flyer since she obviously had no idea what had been going on in the classroom.

As she read over the flyer, her heart began to pound against her rib cage, and her eyes widened. This wasn't just any music competition, this was the music competition. Whoever came in first place would win a scholarship to the most prestigious music school in the country. This could be the answer to Sowon's hopes and dreams.
