Ayaan always ate alone in his room from the last year. He had become more reserved.
Only on rare occasions would he talk to us.
Chote wasn't like this. He was quite opposite of me, extrovert, bossy but kinder. Untill 1 year ago there was one incident that changed him

Flashback...
He had many friends. He was the kindest of all.
1 year ago, his school had arranged a 4 day trip to a nearby hill station. All his group were very excited and luckily all their parents agreed too. Everyone packed up and reached early to school on the first day.
The trip began. Everyone had their fun. Boys and girls in different buses. Various games like anthakshari, truth or dare were played.
They finally reached the resort after 5 hours. Rooms were allotted. 4 people in one room. Their fun begin.

A secret by the way, my cute little brother had a big time crush on his classmate, Aashi. He had decided to tell her during the trip. Chote was super excited.

On the second day of the trip, a small trek was to take place in the morning.
All the students got ready. Ayaan wanted to propose to Aashi on the Hill top. All the arrangements were made.
All the way up, his friends kept teasing him and he blushed at every word. He walked beside Aashi for a little part of the trek but was too shy to talk to her.

Ayaan and his friends wanted to reach earlier than others. They wanted chote to wait for Aashi and propose to her as soon as she climbs up. So they rushed up the trail. Their teachers kept warning them but, guys were too stubborn to listen. The path had too many stones, and anyone who fell could get hurt severely.

As soon as they climbed up, the view was breathtakingly beautiful. Chote's best friend, Vihaan kept moving towards the edge. At a point, he slipped and fell off the cliff. The boys rushed towards the edge but were too late to hold him.

Vihaan was no more. As the teachers came up, and got to know the situation that occurred. Each of the teachers were very furious at the boys. Immediately, the trek stopped. Everyone came down. All the guys were scolded by the teachers. The trip was cancelled. The students were depressed for the trip being cancelled but more horrified when everyone got to know about what had happened.
Everyone came back from the trip.
Vihaan's parents were immediately informed. They rushed to the school. Their state was terrific, it was Vihaan's birthday the next day. A huge loss for them.

Vihaan's mother kept on saying,
"He was my only child. He always used to ask us, that he wanted a younger sister. Finally we were going to adopt a girl and surprise him tomorrow. Hey Bhagwan, why does everything happen to me only."
The family was very excited untill this incident.

These words took their toll on my brother. The incident just hit him hard.
He has taken the entire blame on himself.
"Di, just because I wanted to propose to a girl, We all rushed up without listening to the teachers. If I wouldn't want to propose, Vihaan would be with me now. It's all my fault!" , Were his last words of the note, he had left in one of my books, after he returned from the trip.

Flashback ends....

He has never been the same after that. He has almost shut everyone out. He only talks what is necessary. He doesn't speak to Aashi as well.
I have tried speaking to him many times, but the conversation always becomes useless. He never speaks up.

I was too lost in thoughts, when I realized mom was literally screaming at me, for I haven't been replying to her since the past 10 minutes.

"Myra, what are you thinking?"
"Nothing maa, just a little scared. College starts in a week."
"Don't worry sweetie, everything will just be fine. How is Aarav?"
And just when she said this, dad entered the room with some envelope in his hand.

"Savitri, what have you made for dinner?"
"Biryani, Ram", mom answered in a low voice.
"Ha, give me. Only a few more days I'll have to adjust with your stupid cooking. I'll  freshen up and come.", Saying this dad went into his room.

He had placed the envelope on the table. I just took a sneak peek of it.
"Confidential", it read.
I looked at mom. She was scared.
She commanded me to go into my room.
Dad came out.
"Savitri, that envelope has our divorce papers. Sign it and give me my freedom!", I heard dad say as I rushed into my room.

I broke down. I kept weeping.
