“It was a lovely evening.” He said.

“Yes, it was, I should thank you for that. Without you, it would've been like my other boring evenings.” She answered.

“The pleasure was all mine.” He replied, gallant as ever.

Then, the silence returned, they were standing in front of her house, staring at each other without saying a word. She was actually expecting a kiss, but apparently, he wasn't intending to. So she decided to make the move. As she got closer to him, trying to reach his lips, he stepped back.

“Emily, what are you doing?” He asked, surprised by her act.

“Why not?” she answered by another question.

He didn't say anything, soon, she added “Ethan, there's something you should know. I've been keeping this for myself for so long, but I can't take it anymore. It's killing me, I just can't handle being away from you…”

“What are you talking about, Em?” He interrupted her.

“Oh please, don't act like you don't know what's happening. I'm sure that you have noticed that there's something between us, and you can't ignore it!”

“What? …”

“I love you, Ethan! I always have.” She said, as she put her hands on his cheeks.

He kept silent, shocked by her confession, “Since when?” He asked, trying to step back.

“I don't know, when I realized, I found myself deeply in love. Ethan, I've never felt this way before. I only felt this for you, and the idea of you with anybody else was killing me.” She looked up at him then added “Aren't you going to say anything?”

“Emily, look! It's been a long day, and you must be really tired. And I think that you drank too much, so you don't know what you’re saying.” He said, trying to comfort her.

“No! I know exactly what I'm saying. And I mean it.” She replied. “I am telling you that I'm in love with you, and all you came up with is that I'm tired or drunk! Ethan, I'm serious, I'm actually more serious than I've ever been before.”

“Em, Please…”

“So you don't?" She tried hard to hold her tears “... You don't feel anything, not even a bit?”

“Um, listen, I love you, okay! But not that way, not the way you're thinking. I have always loved you, I mean, we're more than friends, you're like my little sister. Just that, nothing more.” He said.

“Why? Why not that way?”

“Because, Emily, it's not something we choose. It just happens. And you and me, we could never happen.”

“You know, back when you punched that guy, I was really happy. Because, it was the first time that I feel someone defending me. And I thought that maybe...” She couldn't complete her sentence as the tears started coming down her eyes.

“Look, I'm sorry if I gave you fake signals. But back then, I did what I had to do, and what I would always do, I will always defend you. You are my little sister.” He responded, trying to clean her tears.

"You're not hearing me! ... I am not your little sister, you know! And I don't want to be. I love you, and I want to be with you. And there's nothing that could change that. You don't think I tried. I tried to take you away from my mind, I tried to forget all about you, but guess what! I couldn't. My feelings were getting much stronger day by day. And during all this time, you were living your life happily. Not giving a damn about what I would be passing through.”

“Emily, I'm sorry. I know how this feels, and I never wanted you to go through this.” He added.

“No you don't! You don't know how it feels. After all how would you know? You're Ethan, you're perfect. You always get what you want, what you need. Of course you don't know how it feels.” she stopped then she added, “Oh wait a second, what I don't understand is why she left you. I mean, you're perfect, every girl would want to be with you. But why would she want to end it. What happened? What did you do to her?”

“Emily, you're going too far. I think you should walk in.” He commanded, warning.

“Or what? What are you going to do?” She laughed, crying at the same time.

“Emily, you're drunk, you should go!”

“Not before you tell me.”

“You know this is a very sensitive topic for me. So please, enough! Don't let me say something that could hurt you.” He said, with a very serious voice.

“Oh really? Well you've hurt me enough already, I think I can take a little more.” She smiled, then added, “You still love her don't you? And you still can't believe that she's cheated on you. So I guess now you know how it feels to get hurt from the person you love. Huhh, you think you're perfect, you think you got it all, no one can actually compete with you...”

“Are you done?” He stopped her, “Because the last thing I would want to hear, is this crap.”

“No, I'm not done. And I will never get done.”

“What happened to you Em? That wasn't you.” He said, regretfully.

“Nothing happened, that was me from the very beginning. You chose to see it differently.”

“Well, then I was mistaken, because I thought that you were different. And it turned out that you're just like the others.”

She moved towards him, trying to touch him, then said “Ethan, I love you, and all I want is you. And you will be mine, trust me!”

He moved towards her, moving his mouth closer to hers as if he was going to kiss her, then whispered “Well, you can enjoy disappointment.”

“Ethan, what..?” She said, as she was watching him go.

He turned to look at her, then added "You will never have me the way you want. And maybe, now you've lost me as a friend too."

“Wait… Ethan, No!” She begged, trying to catch his arm.

“Goodbye, Emily!” He said and then head back to his car.
