No one knew when or how the virus started. All we knew was that it spread. Fast.  The symptoms were that of the common cold. Coughing, runny nose, and headaches. Except the outcome was worse, a lot worse. The virus infected the brain of humans, quickly killing them, but still animating their body. Their skin began decomposing in a matter of hours. The virus forced these "zombies" to attack other humans in order to spread the parasite into their brains.

June 1st, 2017. 1500 hrs.

[Camden]

The year was 2017, and it was my 16th birthday. The day had been going fairly well. I'd taken my driver's test and passed. Currently my girlfriend Mollie was over and we were celebrating.

"I can't believe you're 16 now Cam!" said Mollie, reaching up to poke my nose. I smiled and poked her back.

"Pretty amazing, isn't it?" I said. Ugh. I mentally smacked myself. 3 years and I still can't talk to a girl. Mollie laughed as if she could understand my thoughts, and kissed me. We were locked in a kiss when we were interrupted by frantic knocking on the door. I sadly left Mollie's embrace and went to open the door. Standing there was my friend Jack. His normally slanted eyes were wide open and frantic. His spiky black hair was in even more of a mess than it normally was.

"Jack, what the heck?" I said.

"Dude, let me in!" he said. Not waiting for an answer, he barged past me and into my house.

He saw Mollie on the couch and his face turned bright red. "Oh... was I... never mind, this is important!"

"Jack! Tell me what is going on!" I said, "Wait, why is there a sword on your back?"

It was true. On Jack's back was a 3 foot long katana, which I recongized, because it usually hung on his wall.

"It doesn't matter now! Do you have a car?" Jack was running around my house, grabbing food from everywhere, while Mollie just stared at him like he was insane.

"Yeah, it's in the garage," I said.

Jack instantly ran into my garage and started the car. "Get in and I'll explain while we drive!"

I took Mollie's hand and she and I sat in the backseat of my parent's Honda Civic. "Jack you can't drive yet, you don't have a license!" Mollie said.

"Doesn't matter now!" Jack said,  "Look, there's a virus going around America and it's turning people into zombies!"

"Jack, are you high or something?!" I said.

"No, no I'm not. Ok, you'll most likely find out for yourselves once we go into the city. We need weapons."
