Thunk. The sound came from the skull of the zombie that Kira had just pierced. It resisted the crossbow bolt sticking out of its right ear, then slumped over. Kira looked at the crossbow in awe. Courtney pushed the now completely dead corpse out of her lap, and struggled to her feet.

"Well, shit," Jack said, breaking the awed silence. "We should move, there'll be more of them."

"What happened to Cole and Anna?" Mollie asked, "And our other friends?"

"I don't know," Jack said, "But we'll probably find them in Portland. Let's go."

We left the store, passing the zombie. Jack kicked it in the face for good measure. Jack led us back to the car. I kept one hand on my Sig Sauer, and I felt a little safer.

"Where are we going, Jack?" I asked.

"Maine Med," he said, "We need medicinal supplies, let's not avoid the inevitable."

"Good idea," Courtney said.

Jack drove us up to the hospital. The city looked like a warzone. Cars were smashed everywhere, and buildings were on fire. I glanced down an alley at one point and saw a shadowy group of figures bent around another figure. The screams could be heard from the car. I shuddered.

A loud gurgling sound erupted from Jack's stomach.

"Oops," Jack blushed, "I think we're also gonna need food."
