"What?!" I exclaimed. Cole lowered his head, and his shoulders were shaking. Tears fell off his face on to the bedsheet.

"I...I..." Cole choked, not being able to get the words out. His hands were clenched along the metal railing of the bedsheet, knuckles almost pure white.

Mollie burst through the door, obviously worried about me. She screamed when she saw the hospital bed.  The figure stirred, and Cole jerked his head up, but its eyes didn't open. I could visibly see the tears streaming down his face as he stroked his girlfriend's hair. To see Anna lying so helpless, and not like her normal, firey, sarcastic self that usually doubted me, it just hurt inside. For all of us.

But then I wondered, what's the damage? She doesn't look dead.

Then I saw it. At the end of the bed, where Anna's feet should be, there was only one point sticking up under the blankets. No. I thought. Cole met eyes with me and he knew what I was thinking. He slowly made his way to the end of the bed, and slowly pulled the covers off Anna's legs. Mollie screamed even more when she saw what was underneath. Anna's right leg was severed about a foot below the hip, I knew that Cole had done the best he could, but without  medical attention soon, Anna's condition was fatal. I removed the rag that Cole had tied around the stump.

"Cole! What happened?!" I asked.

"Sh... she... she got bit," he said, "It... was her idea to... to... t-..." Cole started sobbing, and slumped against the wall, defeated.

"Shit, we need to get her some supplies!" I said. I grabbed a medical laser from its holster and aimed it at Anna"

"What are you doing?!" yelled Cole.

"I'm cauterizing the wound, therefore, she won't lose any more blood,"  I explained.

Cole stepped back, and I went to work. Once I finished, I looked around wildly for more supplies.

"Mollie!" I commanded, "Get a wheelchair!"

Mollie raced out of the room while I grabbed a syringe. I looked at it. It was marked Adrenaline. Praying that this would work, I positioned the needle above Anna's heart, then plunged it in, and pushed the plunger. Anna's eyes flew open, and she looked around wildly.

"What?! Where?! What happened?!" she asked frantically. Mollie came back into the room with a wheelchair.

"Cam," she said, "We've got trouble!"

Then the first zombie appeared around the corner.
