"Happy, do I have to go to a public school?" someone asks while sitting in the back of the car, which Happy is driving "Yes you have to, mister Stark's orders" "Of course dad ordered you to do this, he could've send me to a boarding school or something" she says messing with her hair and she sighs seeing the school "Just drop me off here" she says grabbing her bag "See you later Happy" she says. "A-are you the new student?" a boy asks earning a nod "My name is Peter Parker, I offered to show you around" "Ah thanks Peter, I'm Skylar" she says with a smile and she swears she can see Happy give her a thumbs up "That's a pretty nice jacket" Peter says "Thanks, my eh... dad's girlfriend got it for me, it's a little too big though". Her first day wasn't too bad, as it turns out she and Peter had known each other when they were neighbors when they were kids, but then she moved to Stark tower five years back and they lost contact, cause Tony's overprotective when he can "You had a good day kid?" Tony asks earning a nod "Not half bad for a public school" she says "So... why am I registered as Potts and not Stark? I mean, everyone already seems to know it" "For your safety obviously-" "Tony quit the BS, was it Pepper or you who decided it'd be safe?" "Both, but Pepper did all the paperwork, so don't look at me" he says "Why not have a party at your penthouse?" he asks "Why would I?" she asks plopping down "You'd make friends" he points out earning an unimpressed look "I want friends who like me for who I am, not because you're my father or for the parties" "That's a good way to think" Pepper says "Maybe she should wait until she's been there longer".
The next day Flash is going around saying he has a party, but Skylar can guess what kind of party that is "Hey new girl, you wanna come too?" he asks "This 'new girl' has a name, no I don't want to come to your no doubt lame party" she says walking on to lunch "You'd make some friends!" he says making her stop "The kind of friends I'd want to strangle" she comments "I'm not coming, I'm more excited to see the person coming to pick me up than seeing you after school". Somehow Flash roped even her possible friends Ned and Peter into going, but she can see they don't want to "So... you two wanna join my shopping trip?" Skylar asks "Yes" Peter says "But I don't have-" "I don't care if you buy something or not Ned" she says looking at him "MJ, you going to the party?" Peter asks "Of course, you guys are coming too right" "No, we're going with Skylar on a shopping trip" Ned says, of course Flash has to hear that "Didn't you say that you'd come too?" he asks "Yeah, but we changed our mind" Peter says "Now if you'll excuse us, lunch is halfway done". Flash glares at Skylar, who simply ignores it as she follows the other two "Hey new kid" he says "You probably don't know-" "I know a coward, bastard and idiot when I see one" she comments dryly.
Loki is waiting awkwardly for the girl since he keeps getting stares "Uncle Loki" she says tapping him on his shoulder "Sky thank heavens you're here, they keep staring at me" he says "Eh yeah people do that" she says "Anyway, these are my friends Ned and Peter" she adds mentioning to the two "They're coming too?" "Yeah they were forced to agree to go to a party they didn't want to go to, so I invited them to go shopping". At the mall Skylar is dragging the two along "This shop again?" Loki asks "You know this is my favorite clothing store right?" "Yes I know Sky", although he doesn't seem too happy about it "There's always the store Happy and Pepper refuse to let you enter" he adds "Won't they find out?" "Nah and if they do find out I'll take the blame, besides, they wouldn't be able to get anything at this store", Peter however is looking at a black jacket with a white spider at the back so Skylar looks at Loki "Fine". They arrive at an apartment after shopping and Skylar sighs seeing Pepper "Pretty sure it was a mess yesterday" she says "I cleaned it up for you" Pepper says "Did you happen to clean my room?" "No, that's your mess to clean, dinner's almost ready" "I'll set the table" "Why don't you show them the apartment?" Pepper says "Where's-" "Busy, Steve called", Skylar pouts, but starts the tour anyway "Your room is a mess" Peter says and they look mildly confused when several things are stored away out of sight. "Tony where are you?" Pepper asks when she answers the phone during dinner "Pepper, is someone with you?" "Loki stayed" Pepper says "Good, I'll be back within a week" "You hope", the call is ended and Pepper looks at Skylar's defeated face "How about we go to the zoo when he gets back?" she asks "Fine" Skylar mumbles "You two staying?" "I guess I can stay" Peter says "I can't" Ned says "I'm sorry" "It's fine" Pepper says.
A week goes by fast and Skylar is at the Avengers base waiting for her father, but when he does Steve practically has to carry him "He'll be fine" Pepper says with a sigh "Right, but what do you think happened?" "I have no idea and I'd doubt they'll tell us" "Good point", the first thing Tony does when he's fully awake is eat a burger and hugging Skylar "I was so worried" she says "Of course you were kiddo, but I'm fine" "I know, but I never know when you will come back alive and I can't lose you too", Tony sighs when he's hugged tighter "You won't lose me and I don't plan on losing you kiddo" he whispers "We're going to the zoo tomorrow" she says "When did you decide that?" he asks "After the phone call" Pepper says with a smile, these moments are precious after all.
