PERFECTLY CRIMINAL
—Chapter Four—
A Healthy Dose of SugarNever in a million years did I ever think I would wake up early to go to the gym. Ever.
For those of you who were unaware: I don't go the gym. I'm the kind of person who only exercises when absolutely necessary. Hayden likes to tell me it's because I'm lazy but that is the reason supplied by those uneducated few who were not modern enough to be on low battery mode.
Of course being on low battery mode had its disadvantages which were mainly my lacking upper body strength and my nonexistent stamina.
I was half asleep sat on a mat in an incredibly dark room. It was a private gym owned by my mother's friend where I was sat waiting for my personal instructor to teach me the art of kicking ass.
Why am I here at this ungodly hour? I'll give you three guesses although I'm sure you only need one.
"Be here at six in the morning." I mimicked the sound of Hayden's voice as my face fell into my hands. Six in the morning and the bloody instructor was no where to be found. "Just wake up at the crack of dawn to exert unnecessary muscle movement and have your ass kicked by a random stranger. It'll be fun."
Currently I had decided to plot the murder of Hayden and was in a current state of turmoil deciding whether I should go with death by glare or just hit him over the head with one of these weights.
"How bad could it be?" I continued salty.
"You sound thrilled to be here. Sorry Miss Adams, I had an emergency with my car. You do know there was light switch?" A voice called out as the lights turned on with the flick of a switch.
"Um. Of course I knew, I was saving the environment." I said as I stood up brushing the dust off my leggings. "You can call me Sophia or Nick or anything in between."
"I'm Matthew." He said with a smile. The guy in front of me was tall and the whole being a trainer thing was easily detected by the build of him. His hair was closely cropped to his head and was a light brown, his eyes a bright brown. "So, what's your experience with kickboxing?"
"I've never done it." I replied nervously.
"Okay. Let's begin with a warm up. Then we'll test your stamina and hopefully we'll get onto the basics of kickboxing." Matthew said rubbing his hands together meanwhile I was probably pulling a horrified expression.
It was far too early for this.
So early that half an hour in and I was a mess.
"Are you okay?" Matthew asked concerned probably because I was lying on the mat hyperventilating whilst bright red and charmingly sweaty.
"Mhm." I just about grumble despite the fact that every single limb in my body currently felt like it has been torn off.
"Um. Maybe we should take a break?" He said holding out a hand which I happily grabbed. He pulled me up as I fell into his chest.
"Be honest. How bad am I?" I ask to which Matthew took a step back laughing.
"Considering we've only been doing this for half an hour and you only made it to five press ups I'd say we have lots of work to do." I cupped my face in my hands as I turned even more red from embarrassment.
