Noah

“One word frees us of all the weight and pain of life: that word is love.” -Sophocles

“Today has been a lot of fun.” Donna smiled. “but I've got to go meet up with Kent” She brushed some hair out of her eyes and gave me a huge hug.

“Don't be a stranger!” I hollered as she walked toward the exit. She raised her hand in a thumbs up and continued to walk out the glass door. I sat back down at the bench and glanced up at the seat across from me. Even though he donned a pair of sunglasses to cover his pink eyes, I knew it was Eros.

“Hey.” He smiled devilishly.

“What's with the sunglasses?” I asked, gathering the shopping bag filled with all of my purchases.

“Well I thought it would be better if people didn't stare.” His smile faltered in such a way that I wondered if it hurt him that people would look at him strangely.

“I get it,” I said, half smiling.

“So the mall is a great place to start.” He folded his hand on the table and turned his head as if looking for something.

“Start what?”

“Your matchmaking.” He turned toward me and grinned.

“I shouldn't be surprised.” I sighed, and leaned back. “So what does matchmaking entail exactly?”

“Healing your heart.” He said, placing his hand on mine. I rolled my eyes at the horrible cryptic way he said that and how much more he seemed to have in store for me.

“Look to your left,” He said suddenly. I slowly turned to my side and caught view of a guy with red hair and a nice, full frame. He was looking at a row of watches that were on display in a window.

“His name is Freddick Johnson,” He started. “He hates the color orange, he's allergic to fish, and he travels a lot to different places so you would probably have to spend a lot of your relationship long distant.” He smiled mischievously. “Though, you look like the kind of person that thinks long distance relationships scream: my life is over.”

His hand was still on mine so I slid mine back into my lap.

“Wow. I'm impressed. Is that how we're going to do things?”

He laughed. “No. I just wanted to show you that trick.”

He glanced inside the Old Navy part of the mall and stood up.

“Meet me in there.” Then he sped walked into the store. I stumbled as I got up and grabbed my bag, following him into the store. He was on the other side of the Children's section. I sighed and started walking toward him. Going through the Men's section, I accidentally bumped into someone.

“Oh! I'm sorry!” I glanced up as I said it. His eyes were a wide chocolate brown, the same color as his slightly long hair.

“It's alright.” He flashed a cute dimple at me. We stood a little awkwardly for awhile and then he held out his hand.

“Noah Shields.”

I took it and smiled.

“Scarlett Wetherington.”

We bid each other a soft goodbye and then I walked the rest of the way toward Eros. His mouth was open and his sunglasses were in his hands

“What are you doing? That guy was checking you out!” He exclaimed.

“What?” I glanced back at Noah and then back at Eros. “Are you sure? I didn't even notice.”

He scoffed. “Well go back and flirt.” He waved his hands in the air.

“So I just marry the guy you say that works? No thanks.”

“I don't force love.” He shook his head. “I just try to lead you in the right direction.”

“Okay...” My face was flamed with embarrassment as I walked back toward the area where Noah was.

“Hey...Noah.”

He looked back at me and a smile formed across his face, flashing me the dimple in his right cheek.

“Hey,” he responded, stepping a lot closer to me. A pleasing smell wafted out toward me, emanating from him. It smelled strong, not like cologne but a like a nice body wash.

“I just wanted to know-”

“If I wanted to go out with you sometime. Catch a movie. Get your number. Chill.” A smile spread across his face as he finished. My mouth was open in surprise and my face was flushed from a ridiculous blush that bloomed on my face.

“Well...if you put it that way...” I said, smiling in spite of myself.

This was new...

I glanced up where Eros was standing. He had a wicked grin across his face and was pretending to look at the clothes rack.

“I have to go home for a couple hours but...meet in Miracle Bite at eight?” He asked. I froze for about half a second and then snapped out of it.

“Sure.” I flashed a smiled. (This is so unlike me.) “I have to go home for awhile anyway.”

“Great.” He grinned and gathered his things, walking off.

I looked back at Eros.

Resisting is going to be a Hell of a lot harder than I thought.

“You did great,” he said, grabbing my hand. Physical contact seemed like it wasn't a problem with him.

“I've never gone so...straight forward with asking someone out.”

“That's because you've never been the one to initiate anything.” he pointed out.

“Whatever,” I said, narrowing my eyes at him.

“Careful.” His eyes twinkled light pink lights. “I just might shoot my bow and arrow at you.” He glanced up at a picture that was in the window. It was a little chubby cupid for Valentine's Day tomorrow.

I glared at him out of annoyance.

“You can take that your bow and arrow and shove it up your rosy little-”

“No need to be mean!” he cut me off and grinned. A full-on grin twitched at the corner of my lips but I shoved it back into place.

“Let's just get me home.” I allowed a soft smile.
