It was a bright day at this time. The skies were clear, with no sign of clouds anywhere, and horses fed on the grass outside of where we were. That's right. We're still in the stables!
It was long since Kazuma and I got up for the morning, but Aqua still lay sprawled out in her pajamas as me and Kazuma just simply stood there and stared off into space.
This isn't how I imagined life in a parallel world would be, I thought to myself, Income is unstable for a beginner adventurer, so sleeping in a stable is normal. Now that I think about it, adventurers are basically insignificant, job-hopping part-timers. Job-hoppers can't even afford to stay in hotels in a place as affluent as Japan. Minimum wage? Fair labor standards? What are those? Are they tasty?
I looked to Kazuma, to find out he looked like he was thinking about the same thing. It seems like a phenomenon that we think about the same things, but are entirely different people. What could cause such a phenomenon? Or is it just a coincidence, as we both are heavy gamers and otakus.
Aqua finally woke up and stretched for a moment. She finally said, "Good morning."
Kazuma replied, "Don't 'good morning' me. It's almost noon. Weren't we going on a kill quest?"
Aqua slowly sat up.
"Once I realized we didn't have to go to our construction job, I couldn't help myself."
As she yawned, I just simply stared. She was the one who suggested the kill quest, so why isn't she getting prepared like the rest of us were? I couldn't just sit there, wasting away without having done a single kill quest.
"So, wasn't this world supposed to be under attack by the Devil King, and in a huge crisis?", Kazuma asked, "This is as peaceful as it gets! There's no sign of evil influence anywhere."
"This is the furthest city from the Devil King's castle. Besides, he wouldn't go out of his way to attack a city with nothing but novice adventurers in it.", Aqua replied nonchalantly.
I really could just sit around doing nothing and conversations would suddenly happen.
"I guess..." Kazuma said.
"Now, let's go on that kill quest!" Aqua said, standing up now, "You can count on me!"
"Something tells me you said something similar yesterday," Kazuma said, in a monotone voice.
"But you are a goddess. We'll count on you." I added, "Isn't that right, Kazuma?"
"I guess so.", Kazuma responded, "All right, let's put together the most basic equipment we can and head out."
Aqua shot up with a, "Yeah!"
A large bang came from the wall behind us, and a voice boomed, "How long are you gonna hang around?! You wanna get walloped?!"
"We're sorry!" The three of us shouted.
Sometime later, in a field nearby, it was time for us to do out kill quest.
Kill Quest: Defeat 5 Giant Toads in 3 Days
Kazuma and I were sprinting like lightning as we were running away from a giant toad. His sword and Golden Experience's punches were not as effective as I thought they would be. As we ran for dear life, a giant toad hopped after us in pursuit. Aqua meanwhile, was far away from the scene laughing, but close enough for Kazuma and I to hear her.
"Oh man, this is hysterical! Kazuma, your face is red and you have tears in your eyes! Both of you look super desperate!" she laughed.
This was true, we were literally running for our lives. Kazuma looked in a worse condition than me. I didn't like Aqua's nefarious taunting a single bit.
