/Delilahs POV/
"Dad." I breathe, feeling the air push as it accpets my word.
"Delilah, baby." Tony walks toward me but I take a step back, like a child might do to a frightening dog. Tony stops and looks at me funny, his eyebrows pulled together in confusion. I look over at Noah and he walks over to me, putting his arm around my hip and pulling me into his side. For the first time in a while, I feel like I can breathe. I take a deep breathe before looking up into my dads gaze.
"Why are you here?" I ask sternly, keeping my eyes locked on my fathers.
"Why are we here? Really? We havent seen you in a year Delilah. Ever since you ran away," "Ran away?" I cut him off, shocked at his word choices," I didnt run away. You drove me away!" I shout but soon regrt it. The baby monitor on the counter starts to blink red, following it with cries and whales. I roll my eyes and clench my jaw, breaking away from Noahs grasp and drifting down the hall to my daughters room.
The room is small and painted a deep purple to match her bed sheets. I smile big and greet her with a warm hi as I reach down into her crib. I grab a blanket from a little closet and wrap her in it. Her hands push against my chest as she looks around her room like shes done a million times, then back at me and giggles deliciously, like shes done a million times. I cant help but smile bigger at her and take her fingers into my mouth and bite down gently, making her laugh even harder.
I turned to the door to leave but was taken back at my audience. Tony and the guys were watching me with awe struck faces. My smile slowly falls. Their eyes flash down to the bundle in my arms. I look down at her too but cant help but smile again at her slowly growing sleepy again, her head bobbing back and forth as she falls asleep then shakes awake again.
"Whats her name?" Jaime asks, pushing past Mike and Tony to get a better view.
"Laylah. Her name is Laylah." Jaime walks up to my slowly and holds his arms out to me, gesturing to hold her. I hold her out carefully to his waiting arms and place her into his care. His face brightens up down at her sleeping body, her fingers stretching and curling up again as though shes looking for something to grasp. Mike steps up and puts his finger in her little palm her. She grasps it tightly like it was life and death and finally falls to sleep.
"Dang D, shes a beaut." Mike states while shaking the finger Laylah was holding. Jaime nods his head in agreement, to mesmerized by the sleeping child.
"You did good." Tony chimes in, stepping around Jaime get a good look.
"I know." I say sternly, folding my arms over my chest and keeping my eyes stuck on my daughter.
We somehow find ourselves back in the living room, Laylah being passed around so much, shes woken up and fallen asleep so many times ive lost count. Vic was telling us about this new girl he was seeing when the clock on our wall starting dinging, telling us it was midnight. I stand and walk over to Mike who was sitting in a chair with a spit up blanket on his shoulder, cooing down at Laylah. I reach down for her and hold her against my shoulder, feeling her squirm a little before settling down.
"Ok, times up." I say, bouncing my arms to try and get Laylah to go to sleep. I look around and see the guys staring at me in confusion and shock. "What? I said I'd give you an hour and it has been way more than that. So goodbye, safe travels, we should do this again sometime, not too soon." The guys gather their stuff up and begin to put on their coats.
"Man, who shoved a cactus up your butt?" Tony mumbles, probably thinking I didnt catch it but I did. I turn to him and snap," You did." He turns to me with a surprised look, like he cant believe I had actually heard. But I dont fall for it. "Why did you really come here? It couldnt have been to see me because, as I recall, the last thing you said to me was 'I never wanna see you again'."
"Delilah, please, let's just end the night on a good note." Tony grumbles, turning his body away from me. I stand their frozen as I watch them head towards the door, the other guys muttering stuff about time and how it was stupid that they had to go. I walk to the hall facing the door and call out," Are you here to make ammends? Or just to see Laylah and then go?" They all stop. Tony turns to me and looks me hard in the eye, making me want to curl away and hide in the corner but I remain in my spot.
Tont clenches his jaw and yells,"Stop making me out to be the bad guy already!" I step back a little, feeling my heart speed up. But he continues." I did nothing wrong! It was you who got pregnant. You who was whoring around with him." He points to Noah whos been standing silently behind me but was slowly coming up behind me. He reaches out and takes Laylah from me, seemingly unhurt from Tonys comment. I hand her over to him and clench my fists downnat my side. "Whoring around? We planned to have a baby. Thats why we waited till I was done with school and was a adult. It was you who freaked out and yelled at me. You told me you never wanted to see me or the baby again. That's why I left." "Shut up." Tony hisses, keeping his head down and his eyes glued to the floor. " Thats why none of you have seen me in over a year." "I said shut up." "Thats why none of you have seen Laylah. " But its too late to take back my words. Tony explodes, yelling so loud I see the lights shake a little.
" What then?! What do you want from me?! I was scared Delilah! Ive had you for 4 years, I missed over half your life, I didnt know what to do. I paniced, I never meant to drive you from home. You or her. Ive never done this before, I'm sorry if im sucking at this but im new at it. Why cant you just leave things on a good note for once instead of digging deeper and screwing up everything that was perfect?" He asks, his breathes coming out in pants. No one dares to move or to speak, even to breathe to loud. I feel hot tears prick my eyes but I quickly wipe them away and take a deep breathe. I close my eyes and let my head fall in defeat, feeling the weight of the world bend my shoulders like a bow getting ready to launch a arrow.
"I didnt mean for you to panic or think that you had some big new responsibility. " I say, picking my head up to look at him through glossy, teary eyes," I had already made plans to move up here with Noah after Laylah was born so you could see her before I left. But you started yelling and screaming and I didnt know what to do. I thought you were gonna hurt me, or her, or Noah so I left. Ive wanted to call, wanted to see you guys and for you guys to meet her but I was so scared you wouldnt want anything to do with me, I never tried. Ive missed you so much Daddy, you and Mike and Vic and Jaime. It hurts my heart to not talk to you guys everyday or see you or knowing that up until today, you had no idea Laylah even existed. I thought I disgraced you, disgraced the band and the your name. I thought you thought I was a disgrace." I was cut off by Tonys chest burying into my face, his arms wrapping around my back and pulling me close.
I nuzzle my face deep into his shirt and let go of my tears, this feeling of de ja vo coming over me. We've gone through this scene so many times before, each time the tears and words worse than the last.
