A/N: so this got a little more sad/emotional than I had intended. It's bittersweet but has a happy ending!

You stood at the gates of UA waiting for him. The start of the new school year was still a while away but it was your normal meet-up spot. It was Valentine's Day* and you had your gift for him packaged perfectly. You were a bit excited as you knew he never paid mind to such little holidays so you had the chance to surprise him as he probably didn't realize what the day was and it had been so long since the two of you had met up.

Cars rushed past you as you rested against the towering wall which surrounded the campus. After a bus swept by you could see him across the street. You thought you would be nervous but seeing his calm fashion as he approached melted all of your anxieties away.

"Shouto-kun!" You waved. The two of you attended the same middle school and were quite close. Now that high school was in full swing the two of you were apart often with him attending UA and you going to a private school. It wasn't until the two of you went your separate ways for high school when you recognized your true feelings for your stoic and loyal friend. You knew him well and knew he wasn't one for romance and lovers' fate. Throughout his first year at UA you had learned a lot about his classmates and something new began brewing inside of you. You wanted to deny anxious envy but it took control quite easily. You wondered if he told his classmates about you like he did to you about them. Towards the end of the year you learned of the blossoming bond between him and a stunning girl; Yaoyorozu Momo.

You weren't bitter or violent at all. You had seen them together before and could clearly see Momo's adoration for your childhood best friend, but for the first time you couldn't tell how Shouto felt. It was never easy to do so, but you had learned and the times you witnessed them together, you couldn't decipher his thoughts. You were a bit of the cliche "if he's happy I'm happy", and wouldn't be spiteful if he loved her but you were a bit envious and fearful of losing him altogether so you thought it may be better to be the one to let go first. The two of you had always been each others' rock, the cushion if the other fell, confidants; it was becoming harder though and the two of you hadn't seen each other in almost a year. You had texted a few times but after seeing everything on the news you felt guilty that you were never there to comfort him after some events during his first year.

You had almost expected him to show up with Momo but she wasn't around. It had been a pretty mild and warm winter so far; there wasn't any snow on the ground. However, as if by some otherworldly miracle, it had began gently snowing when you left the house. The temperatures had decreased so some snow began sticking to any patches of grass that were open.

"(y/n)-san." This made you freeze. It wasn't anything you hadn't heard before but each time you did, you felt a small piece of your heart crack. He had always addressed you as '(y/n)-chan' and even just '(y/n)' if you were alone or not anywhere formal. The past few months when you started talking more regularly again he had become more formal and you dreaded the thought of hearing '(l/n)-san' in his voice. You looked up at him when he stopped in front of you. He wasn't smiling nor was he frowning, but his eyes had a comforting familiar warmth.

"Oh! Ah, here! H-Happy Valentine's day..." You quickly thrusted the small red box adorned with a velvety white ribbon up towards him.

"Oh." You looked down not knowing how to feel, in turn letting every possibility swirl through your head which only increased your already hastened heartbeat. Traffic had died down suddenly and the moment seemed to be moving in slow motion as the snow silently fell around you. You heard the faint sound of the ribbon being pulled and the barely audible tapping of the cardboard top being removed and flipped to be replaced on the bottom of the box. You heard some fabric rustle, assuming he put the box in his jacket pocket. He looked quite handsome wearing the perfectly fitted navy peacoat.
