Chapter Fifteen
"Well, that is the last of the papers you needed to sign," John Calhoun told Nate and Blythe. "The ranch now belongs to you and Blythe."
"We will ride out today and let them know we purchased it," Nate replied. "I just wish we could move in there today."
"You know Jim Harrison gave you the option of staying here and not returning to Wyoming," John told him. "I think he really wanted the four of you safe and sound here, especially where Blythe and the children are concerned."
"I know its just I have never left a job with him unfinished before," Nate said. I'll have to think it over some more before I can make that decision."
"And we need to see if Amy will stay with the Healy's too," Blythe added. "If she won't then I guess we will return with Nate to Wyoming because he is not going back without me. I can be just a stubborn as Sam and Alyssa were about that."
That was one reason he was having trouble deciding just what to do, if he returned he knew Blythe and the children would come too. It really wasn't fair to leave the children behind if they returned to Brookton. Matthew's life had already had more ups and downs then most children his age and poor Amy just wanted her mother to be there when she needed her. And the more they traveled by train the more the children hated being confined in such a small space even though Jake and Sam's railroad car allotted them more room to move around.
He needed to put Blythe's and the children's needs before his own now that they were married. He wanted them kept safe and sound as well and staying here was the only way he saw how to accomplish that. But what happens if he stays here but is really needed up there? And how will he know what is happening there if he stays here? Damn for the second time in his life he felt pulled in two very different directions knowing that no matter which way he chose it might just be the wrong one.
"My next suggestion is you both have wills made now that you are married and owners of the Double Bar K. Have you decided to keep the name? Brent didn't change it when he moved there but I know Dusty did when he purchased his ranch from Sam. I can highly recommend Alex Rankin to you as the attorney for making your wills."
"Yes I know he is Sam and Jakes attorney," Nate replied. "And you are right I need to make sure Blythe and the children are taken care of if something happens to me since there is more at stake then just the Double Bar K. I already have a will in place in Tucson that leaves everything to my mother and sister. And no Blythe and I have not discussed any name changes to the ranch."
Nate stood up and Blythe followed his lead.
"We will make our next stop Alex Rankin's office," Nate told John. "Thanks again for your help."
"It was my pleasure," John replied smiling at the couple. "I hope you two have a long happy life on the Double Bar K."
"Thank you," Blythe replied. "I know we will."

Double Bar K
"I would like a meeting with the hands first thing in the morning," Nate told Ray Little as the two men sat in Nates new study. I will come to the bunkhouse at sunup."
After their stop at Alex Rankin's office he and Blythe sat down for a long discussion about their future and it was decided that they would move out to the ranch the next morning after the wills they both were having Alex Rankin draw up were signed.
Having talked with Floyd at the telegraph office he came up with a way to let them know in Wyoming he and Blythe would not be returning.
Nate and Blythe had both written letters, her to her brother and his to Jim letting the two men know of their decision. Floyd told them there was a train coming through today which had a friend of his on it and he would make sure the letters got to Sam at The Golden Lady without any one knowing while the train deliver freight and passengers in Brookton.
