PAIRING: Peter Parker x reader

PROMPT: "What the hell did you do?"

It started out small, your argument with Peter. A simple conversation with you lecturing him on how he needs to be more careful on missions, and him claiming he had it handled.

However, after the particularly stressful and complicated mission that you and the other Avengers just had, it was no wonder why the argument escalated so quickly.

You and Peter loved each other, sometimes a little too much. This love made both of you make rash decisions in order to protect one another, and it just so happens Peter had been a little too rash on the mission for your liking.

The Hydra base the Avengers had infiltrated turned out to house more soldiers and weapons than initially thought. At some point, you and Peter had become separated from the group, finding yourselves in an empty weapons vault, or so you thought it was empty.

A soldier who was hiding jumped out and attacked you, his arm locking around your chest as he held a gun to the side of your head.

"Please, please don't hurt her, shoot me instead, just let her go," Peter pleaded. You shook your head, mouthing the word 'don't.'

The Man holding you shrugged, "Whatever you say," you could practically hear the smirk on his face as he pushed you to the floor, and fired at Peter.

You yelled out, upon hearing the shot, the thought of losing Peter making you sick to your stomach. However, in the nick of time, Steve was there, placing himself in front of Peter, holding his shield up to protect them both.

"You guys get back in the Quinn Jet! Now!" He yelled. You and Peter wasted no time and hurried out as knocked the guy out cold and followed behind.

The event kept replaying in your head, you kept seeing what would have happened if Steve wasn't there in time, what you would have lost, and Peter certainly wasn't helping.

"Y/N, come on, it's not a big deal, I'm fine!" He claimed, tired of hearing you rant about how stupid he was.

"No, Peter! It's not! Don't you understand that you could have died!" You said.

"And you were gonna die if I didn't do anything!" He said, raising his voice. "I was saving you, don't act like you haven't put yourself in danger before to save me!"

"Yeah but I never almost got myself killed! Do you have any idea how I would feel if you died?" You were nearly in tears.

"What was I supposed to do? Let him shoot you? You ever think how I would have felt if you died? I did what I did because I love you!"

"I don't need a hero Peter, I need my boyfriend!" You pleaded weakly, not having the energy or strength to speak any louder.

"Well obviously I can't be both, and I'm sure as hell not giving up being Spiderman!" He regretted the words the instant they came out of his mouth, but his stupid pride wouldn't let him take them back, not that it would do much good.

"Then I guess you've made your choice," you barely got out, your voice cracked with each word, tears streamed down your face.

Peter was still fired up, angered about how you couldn't see that he put himself at risk because he loved you, still stressed about what happened on the mission, still scared. His emotions clouded his thoughts, and he simply watched as you left his room, closing the door behind you.

You had to walk through the commons room in order to reach your room, knowing the other Avengers would be resting in there and chatting, you kept your head down and eyes trained on the floor, trying to hide the tears.
